The Princess Bride Inspired Wedding

princess-bride-wedding

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the original movie release of The Princess Bride. Wow…right? I can’t believe it’s been 25 years! Not only is this one of my fave movies, but it’s one of the top movies of our generation. So, when Ashley of Ashley Bee Photography emailed me telling me that they were planning to design a modern day wedding for Buttercup + Wesley, I couldn’t wait to see what they created! The shoot turned out gorgeous and I love that they stayed so true to the movie, but also gave the story a modern day twist. I hope other fans of the movie will love this just as much. :)

The ceremony setup contained a 25 ft scroll banner made with the words inscribed “Joined by the Bonds of Love,” a line passionately vented by Buttercup to Prince Humperdinck. Behind the banner they hung different flowers from fishing line to give it a sort of whimsical feeling. They used vintage pews from Found then stuck swords in the ground to border the aisle and swag greens through the handles. At the end of the burlap aisle runner were flower arrangements in tree stump vases on top of wooden crates.

Buttercup is wearing a beautiful champagne dress with an asymmetrical overlay. A gorgeous headpiece is worn with gold flowers and pearls (pearls also found on the cake). The team debated back and forth how they wanted the groom to look then came to the conclusion to be true to the Dread Pirate Roberts character and go with all black, which I think was a great choice for Wesley. :)

And they couldn’t forget the infamous place where the “Battle of Wits” took place. They tried to recreate this as true to the movie as possible complete with a bottle of Iocaine powder.

The centerpiece for the reception table is a hollowed out old stump with an array of an organic looking mix of flowers, berries and succulents that look a little wild and unrefined. Sliced tree stumps are used as chargers with simple clear plates. Each plate is topped with an antique bowl of peanuts. I love that there is a frame on the table that says, “Anybody want a peanut?” :) Menus were inspired by the Alamo Drafthouse’s Princess Bride dinner with Screeching Eel Salad, Seared R.O.U.S. and Twue Wuv Truffles. They also featured the drafthouse’s very own Limited Edition wine honoring the 25th anniversary of the movie.

I absolutely love the libations table they created! They wanted to do a table of drinks that was sorta manly + rugged. Large jugs and various bottles of different alcohols stacked up on dark stained wooden crates and a bunch of silver and glass beer steins. The idea behind this table was a place like back in the day where all the men would gather and drink. Maybe they all brought their own alcohol to share, hence the different containers. They also included a few vials of Iocaine.

The white horses played a significant role at the end of the movie as they rode off into their Happily Ever After, so I love that they included that too! Gorgeous job team! Thanks so much for sharing your creative talents with us today!

  29. These photos are fantastic! I have to finish my review with some reworked quotes from the flick. I’m a big fan and these photos need to share the stage.

Imagine Westley and Buttercup viewing the photos for the first time-
Westley: Hear this now: I will always love these photos!
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true Brilliance – you think this happens every day?

    The Dread Pirate Robert-
Goodnight! Ashley. Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely to hire you for my wedding.

I need to end this well intended but unimpressive attempt at a witty and worthy review (sorry all I imagined it reading so much better). Ashley great job and what impressive attention to detail, so well done.

    One more try-
Since the invention of of “wedding photo shoots”, there have been many rated rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind. The end.
