Jen + Andy have been travelling to Italy for about 6 years – it was one of their first trips away together. The first time they both went to Florence, they fell in love with the city and everything Italian. Having been together for 14 years and dreaming of a smaller, more intimate wedding, they decided that getting married in Florence would be the perfect place for these two lovebirds. Their wedding day is a perfect mix of Florence and the Italian countryside – such a dream! Thanks so much to Ed Peers Photography for sending this one my way and congrats to Jen + Andy!
The wedding we wanted was to actually get legally married in Italy. So we had a civil service for just our parents and sisters/brothers in the town hall in the morning. We got ready together, in just simple white dress and black suit. Then we wanted to capture the element of Florence that we have fallen in love with over the years. So we wanted more reportage photography, urban Florence, and it turned out perfect.
Then we split from each other to get ready into my dress and the groom with his best man. The afternoon was then a romantic blessing in the gardens of the castle, where we exchanged rings and our own written vows..amazing. This was then photographed in a more hazy tuscan sun setting….dreamy. It just captured everything we wanted to achieve. The morning a bit more styled, the afternoon more romantic with our friends and family. It was the best day of our lives!
Andy: Seeing Jen walk down the aisle
Jen: During the dessert. That moment the two of us looked in each others eyes with a knowing look of just how perfect it was.
Food was the theme of our wedding! It was sensational. For canapes there were tuscan meats, cheeses, bread corners, stuffed courgette flowers etc. The main meal was caprese salad, crab, a choice of amazzzing ravioli, then either steak or sword fish. The cake was a millefoglie, which was eaten as dessert. The chef made it in front of us all in real time, layer by layer, we were all dying to eat it by the time he finished prepping it!
Don't make any rash decisions – especially about adding extra details as they can go on and on and before you know it it's no longer your wedding! Keep taking yourself back to your original vision, stick with what you want. Also don't scrimp on a photographer. Those shots, in the style you want, are worth every single penny. After all your going to be looking at them for the rest of your life! I still look at mine every day!
venue name: morning in Florence Town Hall, then afternoon at Castello de Vincigliata // wedding dress: Lusan Mondongus from The White Closet // bride's shoes: Rainbow Club 'Simone' from John Lewis // groom attire: Jaegar, and we managed to get some extra material from them so we could make him a waistcoat to go with which he loved. His shoes were tan Barkers. I gave him a vintage Omega watch on the day too and which he just loved // paper goods: We designed our own and had them letter pressed by Blush Publishing // music: A classical guitarist for the procession, a tuscan trio of guitar, acordian and violin for the canapes which was excellent as this gave a real Italian feel to the canapes and kept the guests entertained whilst we had photos taken. In the evening we had a live jazz bad. We are getting married in Italy in October of this year- and although it is in Positano Italy and not Florence or Tuscany, we are using a Tuscan theme because of it’s simplicity and beauty. We chose Positano because of the seaside beauty and recommendations from friends, but I am almost more excited to visit Tuscany for our honeymoon. I love the colors and decor in these photos, it’s hard to not get caught up in all the little details, but we don’t want to travel with a bunch of small items from America to Italy, so we have to keep it simple. These photos make me feel like by doing so, we are still going to have a perfectly beautiful wedding without all the small decorative items.
The beauty of Tuscany leaves speechless – Florence is such an amazing place to celebrate one of the best days in life.
Fabulous wedding in Tuscany!! :)
