Real Wedding: Julie + Joel’s Green Wedding

This beautiful wedding was sent to me by the talented photographer Leo Patrone. Julie + Joel were married in Salt Lake City. Julie is a designer also and was sweet enough to share some details from the day. Thanks Julie!

My dilemma… I am a designer who is used to beautiful things that look impeccable, but I was recently laid off and had a limited budget. I did all of the planning and as many DIY projects to help with the costs of getting married.

The inspiration for the colors came from a beautiful diamond and peridot necklace and pair of earrings that I already owned (purchased while on a trip to Vietnam.) I then found a great pair of green satin shoes to match at Nordstrom {yep, these are my same shoes!!}. Next I needed a theme for the invitations and an accent color to go with the green. My husband is an Arborist and so I wanted to do something with trees… I decided on pear blossoms and pears. I loved the yellow and green together.

My favorite part of the day was just after the ring ceremony, while eating hors d’oeuvres, watching the sunset and visiting with all of our family and friends. The weather was perfect, the view was amazing and I could not have asked for a better day.

Vendors:
I picked three things to splurge on…. a great photographer, good food and a dress that I would love! Okay, maybe four… having the invitations done in letterpress.
Invitations – I drew all of the artwork and designed the invitations
Wedding – Salt Lake City LDS temple
Ring Ceremony and Reception – Heber City, Utah (friends’ home). I wanted a fun, casual environment, but still wanted everything to look beautiful and put together.
Gown – Ayda at Nouvelle Bridal did an amazing job making the dress that I wanted from a Paloma Blanca gown, silk organza bottom with french lace on the bodice. On the belt, I attached silk organza flowers with small pearls and swarovski crystals from Muscari.
Cake – I thought that Katherine from Flour Girls and Dough Boys did an amazing job with the cake. I sent her a photo of the invitations and she made the pears and blossoms on the cake to match.
Caterer – Amazing Southern BBQ from Alan at Terrapin Station. This fit with the fun, summer theme.
Flowers – Jolene Campbell floral design, Lindon, Utah and JJ Nursery for potted plants
Candy – Candy Warehouse

Everything else was DIY…. A LOT of trips to JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels and IKEA for fabrics, pots, candles, hanging lanterns. Runners on the tables were all cut from outdoor fabric from JoAnns. All signs were handmade out of old barn wood that was cut and white washed and then vinyl lettering applied. All of the ties that the groomsmen wore were a mix and match of green and yellow that I found at great prices. You still can have a similar look and a lot of personality… and find ties on sale! I made all of the name tags with mini flower pots, m&ms;, suckers and illustrator.
