Maui Wedding at Haiku Mill: Cass + Ben

Maui bride and groom

We so love a good Hawaiian wedding and the fact that Cass + Ben’s amazing celebration took place at Haiku Mill (also featured in our Top 26 Coolest Places to Get Married) on the lush island of Maui makes it a total win already. With an abundance of insanely pretty peach + blush florals, several fun nods to true Hawaiian traditions, and one gorgeous vintage dress with a whole lot of meaning behind it, well, we just keep falling more + more in love by the minute! We really relate to what Cass had to say about their inspiration + why they decided to do things their way. It just might be exactly what some of you who are experiencing a little bit of wedding planning stress need to hear!

When we thought about our wedding we took the approach of planning a party we would want to go to. After all this is our ultimate celebration! When it came to catering we thought- what are our favorite foods? Music – what music do we like to listen to? We picked songs from playlists we listen to at home – when we cook dinner, bands we’ve seen live, and songs that have special meanings to us. When we thought about a venue we wanted a place that felt right, a place that had a history and beautiful on it’s own. As soon as we saw pictures of Haiku Mill we instantly knew it was perfect for us. We also never felt obligated to stick with traditions or customs. We just did what we wanted and what felt right to us. If you want to break with tradition do it, you make the rules for your wedding day!

Thanks so much to Tamiz Photography for these lovely photos of Cass + Ben’s day and cheers to the newlyweds!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The morning of the wedding there were terrible storms. The ceremony was set to start at 4pm and at 2pm it was still pouring with no sight of the sun coming out anytime soon. Thankfully at around 3 the rain stopped and the sun was shining. Right after we said our vows and were pronounced husband and wife there was a quick little shower, it couldn’t have lasted more than 3 or 4 seconds and it was magical. Everyone laughed and clapped, we couldn’t believe it. We’ll never forget that special moment.

Cass’ dress was re-worked from her mom’s original wedding gown and was tailored + sewn by her now mother-in-law! Isn’t it so, so lovely? And what a fun project for the ladies in the family to take on together!

If you are thinking about not having a video of your wedding think again! I thought a videographer would be intrusive and distracting – I was dead wrong. The day will go by so fast and it’s all a wonderful blur! Ben and I barely remember what we said to each other during the ceremony, we were both so nervous and over come with emotion. I’m so glad at the last minute we decided to hire Sunlit Films.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

I can’t imagine planning our wedding without Pinterest. It’s a great way to collect ideas and get inspiration. I shared my Wedding Board with the coordinators at Haiku Mill, vendors, and florist, This made it so much easier for everyone to get an idea of what we wanted.
