Intimate Iceland Wedding: Kathleen + Steven

iceland wedding

I hope you all enjoyed Kathleen + Steven’s stunning engagement photos we shared this morning, which truly captured the essence of Iceland’s rugged countryside + coastline. We’re back to share their gorgeous + intimate wedding, hosted at the very charming Hótel Búðir. Kat + Steve embraced the magnificent beauty of the natural surroundings, but that didn’t mean their day was void of thoughtful, personal details. In fact, these two put so much love into hand-crafting some special + unique elements that I’m sure their guests are going to cherish for years to come. Here’s more from the couple about some of those projects:

For us, the wedding preparation was almost as important as the wedding day. We poured hours into making every little detail special for our guests. Some had traveled as far as Brazil to attend, and this was our way of saying thank you for sharing in our special day. I spent the better part of a year making hand knitted fingerless gloves for all the welcome bags – which were silk screened and said “Ta (thanks in England) Takk (thanks in Icelandic) and Thanks” and Steve hand-carved wooden signs that we used to point towards different parts of the day: ceremony, photobooth, reception, etc. We really put ourselves into each little part of the project to make the whole experience for our guests special.

Huge thanks to the very talented artists at Iris and Light for sharing these gorgeous images with us today + congratulations to Kathleen + Steven!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

We kept our rings in a beautiful handmade wooden box. Our ring bearer, Kat's nephew, opened the box sideways and the rings fell into the sand. Steve unsuccessfully picked up a couple of handfuls of sand but when our officiant bent down, he came up with the rings immediately. It gave everyone a chance to laugh, and lightened the mood for the rest of the ceremony.

Also, while not technically on our wedding day, (but still very close to our hearts and the wedding "trip") our two guests from Brazil got engaged the day after our big day. We in fact just returned from their fantastic wedding in Sao Paulo, Brazil!

The night ended with a big bonfire on the beach, and everyone talked until the sun came up. Sounds like the most perfect way to end a beautiful day…

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Start early, think big and enjoy every minute of it. Decide what you want to get out of the whole experience first, and then do whatever it takes to make your dreams happen. For us, that meant insane attention to detail on the invites and stationery which we felt added a lot to the beautiful location for our guests.
