Bree (from the blog Capitol Romance) and Abby Grace (the photographer of this shoot) are big fans of Harry Potter, so they decided it would be fun to style a wedding shoot based on their favorite book + movies and provide all you Harry Potter fans with some swoon-worthy wedding inspiration! They wanted to come up with a shoot that would emanate “Hogwarts” but without coming across like a child’s birthday party, so they decided on an earthy, aged but magical feel to the shoot, and settled on a color scheme of purple, moss green and gold. Even if you aren’t familiar with the books + movies, I think you will find inspiration in this lovely shoot.
From Abby, The dress, from Punk Rock Bride, was a huge piece of the puzzle. The simple but incredibly elegant design set the tone for all the details we put into place. Our model’s hair was done by the amazing J Lindsay Hair Design, and she perfectly executed our haphazard description of “British, bohemian, messy, not a side chignon,” and the custom hair piece from Zazzaretti Bridal totally made the ‘do! Donna of Donna K make-up was spot on with the make-up.
One thing that was really important to us was finding a farmhouse table. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Concepts Created, who handcrafts all of their farmhouse tables from reclaimed wood. The table was made complete with an array of mismatched chairs from Maggpie Vintage Rentals, who also provided a ton of various antique accents and accessories. The entire shoot took place at Lost Creek Winery in Virginia, and we couldn’t have had a more beautiful backdrop. Tyler of Voilà! Event Studio was crucial when it came to organizing everyone and adding details that really made the shoot pop.
Just love the drink table! Which drink would you choose? :)
Wendy of Weswen Design was amazing when it came to taking the paper elements from the books and transforming them into wedding stationery. The wedding program was specifically designed to echo the wizarding newspaper, ‘The Daily Prophet.’
Thanks so much to all these talented vendors for helping us dream today! And perfect ideas for a Fall wedding also, right? I hope all you Harry Potter fans out there love these ideas as much as I do! :)
Be sure to check out more great wedding inspiration from movies + music here!

What a wonderful and truly unique photo shoot! Everyone did a fabulous job pulling this together, it’s just breathtaking! Well done!
So creative and gorgeous!! I honestly didn’t know how a Harry Potter theme would be elegant, but this is absolutely beautiful. Perfect example of a theme without going over the top! AMAZING job, ladies! :)
Adorable – haven’t seen anything like this!
Great job! Some pumpkin juice sounds great right about now!
Thanks SO much to GWS for featuring our shoot! We had an absolute blast putting this all together and we think it came out magically perfect!

Jen I cannot thank you enough for featuring our shoot! From the very beginning, GWS was our dream blog to have this featured on. Thank you thank you thank you!
Beautiful. I love every detail. What beautiful natural setting. Just gorgeous.
So in love with this, I can’t decide which detail is my favorite! And I just adore the photo of the bride holding the frog! :) Simply amazing!
Thank you for the feature, it’s just gorgeous!!!! And thanks to Abby and Bree for being so creatively brilliant to put this together.
What a beautiful shoot! Love the little details that tied it all together- the stationary is spot on!
Beautifully done! :)
Wow, I need to find some engaged people to tell them about this. So cool. Everything looks like it came from the stores in Diagon Alley. I hope those awesome invites were delivered by owl??
Great job ladies! It looks great!
Everything was styled beautifully! The paper, the tables, the clothes…everything. Good work ladies.
Love this! Looks fantastic!!!
I am madly in love with this, i can’t stop looking at it! I love all of the little details, the keys, the drinks (oh the drinks!!!), the candles in bottles and the super cute frog!! Well done to all involved, it’s amazing!

This looks so good! It is looks really elegant and nice, not too over the top with Harry Potter, but enough to be recognized as such. Great job!
Love this!!!!
GORGEOUS! I just love the mix of rustic, vintage, and old world charm! This is totally HP without the cheese. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Well done you guys! :)
I’m loving the execution of this wedding inspiration! It’s done in such a classy way, bringing in the charm and nostalgia of Harry Potter in the perfect way. I’m pretty much obsessed with the reclaimed wood farmhouse table and the styling of the drink table. ‘The Daily Prophet’ inspired program is such a cute touch! The photography is beautiful, it captures the ‘earthy, aged but magical feel’ of the shoot exquisitely!
Beautiful photos, you did an amazing job on this!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE…I’m a huge fan of Abby’s work. Such an amazing idea and it was pulled off together so beautifully…
I’m in love with the bride’s hair!
Gorgeous! I LOOOVE the stationery! Very well done!
This is great! Gets the theme across without being the least bit tacky. And I love the idea of using glass bottles to hold tapered candles.
Beautifully made. But I was just looking for the glasses and the lightning bolt. You know, the trade mark of Harry. But anyways, you made the wedding as real and elegant as it should be.
Wow, this is freaking AH-MAZING!! I wonder if I can convince my fiance into doing this kinda theme…
I have been talking up a storm about a Harry Potter inspired wedding. I am so glad that I got the chance to see this! Thank you!
Love all the beautiful details and the images are amazing. Congratulations!
Oh, Abby.
Oh…..oh Abby. This is SPECTACULAR!!!!!! Your build up to this day didn’t do these images justice!!!!!
(I couldn’t be grinning ANY wider for you and your wonderful talent!!!!)
This is so adorable! Purple was the perfect color to go with, too :)
Oh. My. Goodness. Absolutely LOVE it. Not only am I a massive Harry Potter fan, but this is all positively glorious! Nothing childish about it – yet still perfectly whimsical.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Perfect all the way around….Ginny and Harry could not have done it better themselves!
I love everything about this. So magical and beautiful. Great work ladies!!!
ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE! :) This is such an incredible shoot!
Love this! Especially the stationary. Can we know the font on the drinks??!
I love everything about this. So so magical and beautiful. Amazing work ladies!!!
I love it when inspiration shoots focus on the inspiration rather than needing to be literal. This is a gorgeous shoot and I am dying for her shoes!
The stationery is absolutely lovely as well.
*gush gush gush*
Bree and Abby, I am so impressed!! I’m just sad you didn’t involve me somehow :) Wonderfully done and super inspiring!
Thanks GWS for featuring our shoot. It was an absolute joy to work with Abby, Bree and the rest of the team! We are so pleased with the finished product & thrilled that we are able to share it via GWS!
WOW! As a massive Harry otter fan this has blown me away, love it!!
Oh man, the Harry Potter theme music has come unbidden into my brain. This is absolutely stunning in every detail, Abby! The shot of the two of them taking a drink of butter beer — the look in their eyes makes you think they’ll vanish before they finish the last drop.
Wow…absolutely amazing. You have ALL outdone yourselves!
INCREDIBLE! Just simply stunning. So impressed with the palette, the subtle notes, the overall feel. Wow, wow, wow. Bree and Abby, well done!
I really love the drink trunk and key tree of this. But I’m shocked there wasn’t more of an owl motif!
WOW!! This is so incredible – I’ve never seen anything like it!! Love all of the details, it shows how much time and effort and thought went into this shoot. Amazing job to all those involved!!
Wow, Bree et al, this is AMAZING!
Of course it is wonderful. So enjoyed the pictures. I will send to Bryan. He is a Harry Potter fan.
Jaye – the shoes are actually khaki peep toes by Blowfish that I purchased a while back and then Abby DIYed the shoe clips from leftover fabric from the hairpiece made by Zazaretti Bridal :) Just an fyi!
FABULOUS! Abby is such a talented photographer and the styling on this shoot is incredibly creative. Looking forward to more!!!
This is fabulous. Not sure I would want a HP themed wedding, but this is none the less awe inspiring…. Great Job all!
Dawn, the vintage looking font on the drink cards is called Cezanne. Hope that helps!
This is so creative, fun, romantic, and any other adjective you could think of! I love it! The photography is wonnnderful! And Ashley’s hair is incredible too! I just love it all!
This is absolutely beautiful, Abby is so talented!! I love all the details-especially the menu and guest list! :)
OMG!!!!!!!!! Im obsessed with this! Abby is amazing!
I totally giggled when I saw Oliver Wood’s place card, hehehe <3
This is so fabulous & beautiful! Perfect touches for a fall wedding, and HP fans!
Awesome concept & collaboration on this entire shoot! <3!!
I absolutely LOVE this. It is so whimsical and romantic and beautiful! I am so in love with that dress too. You are amazing Abby, keep up the fabulous work <3

This is absolutely amazing!!! I love all of the attention to detail. How did you do this? I am extremely impressed.
I LOVE IT! Props to the director;) XOXO
This is so great! I love how it’s cute, detailed like someone who really reads Harry Potter, but isn’t too cheesy or themey…still a very pretty sweet wedding. Glad you posted this one Green Wedding Shoes!
Bree, you are so talented! This is a beautiful wedding. I love
all the details from the book – especially the butter beer and pumpkin juice! I have to show this to the girls as we have a family of Harry Potter fans and they will enjoy seeing what you have done.
We love theme weddings! So cool!
This amazing! Such a shame that when having a large wedding getting all those reclaimed beautiful wood tables would be next to impossible. Such a HP fan and I LOVELOVE the drinks.
Very creative and very HP…
Awesome shoot. Love all the details. Great job by everyone involved. Especially Bree from Capitol Romance… not that I’m biased.
Just one word!!! Wowww!!! Love loveee it…!!!!!
awesome, awesome, awesome! a classy, chic HP wedding, love it!
Well done to Bree and all involved ~ way to do a theme without it being too ‘themey’! Love the hanging escort cards, the quills and the drinks table!
… this is exactly what I needed to see. We are huge Potter fans and we have been debating whether or not to do a Potter inspired wedding. I was really stuck on how to go about doing it without making it… cheesy, so, this is perfect!
These photos are very nice they make me want to get married just to have my photo taken. congrats to both bride and groom. I would also like to say congratulations on another unbelievable photo shoot by Abby. Your photos always make me consider taking up photo classes so i can one day maybe capture moments the way that you can ” All Hail The Queen “
I am also a Harry Potter fan and I’ve thought about having a magic themed wedding but it failed. Glad to see yours now, congratulations!
omg sooo cute, I love it!
Perfection! What a beautiful styled and photographed shoot.
This is stunning! Absolutely the best!
This is awesome!
As a fantasy-writer and a big fan of wedding-couture and weddinginspirational photoshoots, I must say this entry made me so happy!
This is so beautiful, take out the h.p. themed drinks and the invites it’s still a very elegant yet cozy wedding. Even if i didnt like the books & movies this takes Harry Potter to a very grown up place.
This is EXACTLY the inspiration I’ve been looking for. Me and my fiance actually met at the midnight book release for HP and the Deathly Hallows, and we have been together for over four years! Just got engaged in July, on our 4 year anniversry. He proposed to me in front of Border’s bookstore where we met! I have been looking for great wedding ideas that are not too over the top theatrical, but still “us”. I want a magic flare with Harry Potter inspiration, but I also want to keep the look elegant and classy. You have nailed the theme I was searching for..The perfect harmony of Harry Potter chic!!! THANK YOU for sharing this shoot and your fabulous ideas. You will inspire many a fairy tale wedding, mine included!
Not engaged, not even in a relationship, but how much do I want to have a HP wedding right now?!? Very well done, Bree & Abby!
this is so cute! I actually asked my fiance if we could have a harry potter inspired wedding…he just laughed. LOL
Great shoot! Love it.
One thing though if it were a British the date would be day/ month/ year not month/day/ year.
Love everything about this. Abby is a very creative and talented photographer.
I love this! Awesome!!! Such a great idea!
Beautiful pictures, very inspiring!!
for my engagement photos, we had a Harry Potter themed shoot. Our photographer is Brooke Aliceon and she is AMAZING! We shot this back in August, and she posted it in time for Halloween 2011.
Here is our “Very Potter Engagement”

enjoy!
Love this! Just enough fun and elegance!
Featured wedding (inspiration) of the day!
Thanks for sharing!
I’m not exactly a Harry Potter fan, but these are great shots and think this would be a blast. Don’t let my girlfriend find these or we’ll be on the alter before I know it :)
So cute and beautiful ~ I like it!
WOW. on my day, someday, i will definitely draw inspiration from this. perfectly HP, perfectly elegant, romantic and NOT cheesy. AMAZING.
Where did you find & what is the name for the glasses for the ‘Liquid Luck’?
I absolutely love this! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, so would be ecstatic to have a wedding like this. I have to ask, and sorry to be nosy, but was the suit tailor made or bought? I’m from the UK and this is my fiancee’s ideal suit, we’re trying to find one similar or discover where we could buy one and get it shipped over here. Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!
this is adorable <3
I liked this idea! Very well executed and esp. for the wedding shoot! Hats off to the entire team ranging from make-up artists, decorator to photographer and executor too!
Thanks for posting!
