Handmade Canadian Barn Wedding: Katy + Tyler

vw bug

Katy + Tyler’s handmade Canadian barn wedding incorporated some of our favorite things: a sweet, underlying camp theme? Check. The perfect balance of vintage charm + rustic romance? Check. Impeccable style + tons of great DIYs? …Well, you get the picture! :)

These two cuties tied the knot last summer with meaningful celebration on the grounds of Tyler’s family farm in Ontario. Katy wore a simple, breezy dress paired with a flower crown; Tyler looked dapper in his jeans + suspenders; And they chose to design their day with homespun details that were sentimental and represented their journey together. The end result was a wedding that was relaxed, fun + filled with love – which is just how it should be, right?!

We kind of can’t wait for you to see the pretty photos by Steve Stanton Photography, so let’s get right to it!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The family property where we have hiked for years was our venue and being outdoors, surrounded by farm fields and forest was familiar and spectacular. One of my favourite moments of the day was facing my husband during the warm and sunny ceremony, as my friend played piano and sang. I looked up and saw the 30 flower-filled bottles dangling from the tree branch above, blowing in the breeze, as we were surround by everyone whom we love most and thought, this day could not be more perfect!

Katy + Tyler lucked out big time, because Tyler’s mom is the owner of Sweet Vintage Caravan Co., so they had their pick of fun vintage rides to incorporate into their day!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Fortunate to have had a long engagement of three years, we had plenty of time to plan, which was key! I'd recommend taking your time. We utilized all our assets, friends and family for their various skills. Doing it ourselves assured that we were fully represented as a couple, rather than conforming to what a wedding is ‘supposed’ to be. People will have expectations and ideas about how you should run your wedding day- stay true to you, you won't regret it! Invest in an amazing photographer and videographer. There was so much we missed, and after all your hard work planning, all that is left are photographs! Most importantly, take a moment, perhaps while eating and look around at all your loved ones in one room and take it all in- it's over before you know it.
