Dreamy San Francisco Engagement Session: Juliana + Jacob

San Francisco Engagement

Today we’re sharing a really gorgeous engagement session, captured by the amazing Jordan Voth, with a really sweet story behind it all. Juliana + Jacob met when they were just a couple of kids, and because of that, Juliana wanted to use that as a theme for their session. She says, I wanted to incorporate as many little details as possible into our engagement session. Such as the “it was always you” hand lettering sign, it symbolizes that Jacob and I are each others first and last loves. I wanted to incorporate flowers in our engagement session because for me it meant that our love continues to blossom and bloom into something wonderful. The overall location and look of our session amazed me and I couldn’t have been happier, we just love the look of being outside and taking in the gorgeous area.

We have a lot more from this lovely lady to share throughout the post: the story of how they met in 3rd grade (cue a collective “awwwww” from all the hopeless romantics out there) and their sweet, surprise Catalina island proposal! So, don’t miss a beat you guys :)

How they met: I will never forget the first time Jacob and I met, it was the first week of school of my third year in elementary school when my teacher introduced the class to a student that would be joining our class that year. “Class, I would like everyone to say a big hello to Jacob here.” From there it was history…just kidding, we still considered the other had cooties back then at that age….

Then high school came along, we went separate ways freshman year. Sophomore year approached and it was the very first day. I was walking to my first class and it was a huge crowded mess. But when I saw who was in the crowd across from me and who also had locked eye contact with me, everyone else seemed to disappear. We finally got close enough to have a conversation and it was a big surprise to see him there because I had no idea he was transferring to my high school. That is when it sparked that we were taking a little interest in one another. Once the hand written love letters started getting passed to me between classes I knew from there it was history. After numerous hight school dances, beginning new chapters of our lives such as college, finishing college with one another, and going through many different life experiences with one another and growing we managed to maintain a growing love over the course of 10 years and keep that still going. I guess you can kinda call us high school sweethearts.

The proposal: Jacob had a surprise trip planned for our 10 year anniversary. I didn’t think too much about it, I was just excited to be escaping off somewhere with him. We left Friday afternoon, headed down south, hit some LA traffic and I still did not know where we are going or where we were. Finally that evening when we were at dinner I see his sister, Alyssa, walk in the restaurant and then it clicked, we were in Newport, where his sister attends college. The following day we had to wake up early to head out, we drove down to Balboa and then I noticed we were approaching the loading docks for the boats. My first thought, crap well I do not have anything to wear for a boat, I mean I had a bathing suit but I just wasn’t prepared for this. Then I was put at ease to find out that this was just transportation to where we were going and we were not going to be out on a boat all day. If you know me, you know that I am the kind of girl that likes to be prepared for all occasions and make sure I have everything I need. Come to find our destination, CATALINA ISLAND. We were going to the flipping “Catalina wine mixer”, no not really but its fun to say.

We arrived on the island, I was taken away by the beautiful views and the nice fresh ocean air. It looked like a little part out of Greece. By this time I start to get camera/pictures crazy happy as some refer to it as. Shortly after arriving we came across a place that was renting out golf carts that offered you to make your around the island and go up on the hills to see the beautiful views overlooking everything. So we rented one for a two hour duration and started up toward the hill to see these gorgeous views. Made a few stops to explore and then we were headed back around the other side to complete our trip, because our two hours was almost up to turn the golf cart back in. As we are headed back down Jacob decided to stop on top of a hill spot, in a spot that we were not suppose to stop and people were yelling at us that we shouldn’t be parked there but Jacob didn’t care and seemed preoccupied walking to the side of the cliff over looking this beautiful view…

He said set your camera up on a timer, I thought um what? You hate pictures. I tried to do it but our golf cart was too far away to prop the camera up on it so it just wasn’t working because we were not close enough to even really see us. So he quickly said alright well just let me take a quick picture of you on my phone, I was still weirded out and said okay…he told me to face away from him and look at the view. I said okay now what and he said put your arms up and “I said okay, got it?” And then he said, “now turn around.” As I turn around I see Jacob kneeling down on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hand, everything became a burst of excitement rushing through me in disbelief that this was happening. Then it came out, “will you marry me?” He said I looked like a deer in headlights. I covered my face and was just sheer stunned. “Is that a yes?” oh my goodness I didn’t answer him, what the heck is wrong with me? “YES, YES, YES!” I blurted out. This was one the happiest days of my life!

Big congrats to Juliana + Jacob and best wishes for a beautiful wedding and life together!
