Classic-Bohemian California Wedding: Jessica + Jason

Classic Boho Wedding

Our Tuesday’s looking pret-ty lovely all of a sudden, and a lot of that has to do with today’s gorgeous wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch designed by LB Event Planning + Design and photographed by Amanda Driver! Jessica + Jason opted for decor that fit with their venue, was not “too over the top”, and had a classic-meets-bohemian vibe. LB Events presented the idea of lots and lots (and lots!!!) of hanging plants, and Jessica was over the moon at the thought, so they ran with that theme and crafted an entire wedding around it. At the ceremony, Stella Bloom Designs created an overgrown chuppah with a backdrop of lush, hanging plants paired with classic rose bushes and lanterns. And the reception was held under oversized cabanas, draped raw cheesecloth and soft candlelit lanterns, surrounded by over 120 hanging plants in handmade macrame plant holders. A total dream, don’t you think? Let’s hear more about it all from Jessica…

In regards to the décor, I am into natural yet chic. I kept my hair and make up pretty toned down yet enough to make me feel like a bride. I didn’t wear a veil because I didn’t want to take away from my cascading bouquet. I love garlands and greenery. I wanted my color palate to match the venue and be very organic. I was also into mixing textures. I really loved having pews both wood and white ones mixed in with the vineyard chairs. And I wanted to have a mix and match of tables that were rectangles exposed wood and circular tables with linens. Our venue was so stunning and we didn’t want to over shine its beauty so we tried to just enhance it by having something that fit and it came out even better than I imagined.

We made sure to include a few details that were specifically about us. Our Rabbi suggested that we used a wine for the ceremony that we liked. We included our favorite wine in the ceremony, even if it was a $6.99 Pinot Grigio because it had meaning for us. We wrote our own vows and wrote our own special wording in our ketubah, which helped make the ceremony really personal and warm. We incorporated family heirlooms in our ceremony, from the tallit my grandmother made as our chuppah, to the wedding pictures of our family members on the entrance table to being married with the ring many generations before me were married with.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

After our ceremony my husband and I had a few moments together to enjoy being officially man and wife. Hallie Slade, our planner, asked if we wanted to see the reception area since it was hidden from us all day. Seeing our reception area for the first time together was absolutely incredible. It was like a dream come true. My husband didn’t really know much of what our wedding day was going to look like. He knew he could trust my style and judgment as well as Hallie and her team of vendors. So to see him stunned by how awesome it looked was so fun for me too! It was also lovely for us to just enjoy a few minutes alone in the beautiful setting amongst hundreds of hanging plants and just live in that moment. This also gave us the opportunity to see all the details and beauty before we were bombarded by commotion and showered with love and congratulations. Seeing your visions come to life and your Pinterest boards actualize was incredible.

Hallie from LB Event Planning + Design says, Napkins adorned with rosemary, calligraphed wood table numbers, green pressed glasses, Russell Write bread plates and lush ivory florals in aged terra cotta created lovely guest tables fit for a fancy feast. Other details include a unique escort card display, custom photobooth backdrop, a vintage mailbox to collect gifts, a globe for guests to sign and pashminas in our color palette for the cool evening.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Although I had a vision of what I wanted my wedding to look like, I really put trust in my Wedding Producer/Planner Hallie Slade. She totally embraced my boho-natural vibes. Hallie and the vendors just rocked it! I knew that if I planned every single detail that I would be upset if it wasn’t just perfect or just how I imagined. Therefore, if you can just let go of having everything be perfect you will be amazed at how stunning your wedding will turn out. I remembered when I was deciding between a dusted/lightly frosted wedding cake or a layered naked cake, I turned to Hallie and said “you choose.” I knew I loved them both and that either way I would be happy. So a little surprise was fun to have!

Second piece of advice…hire a party planner or coordinator! Honestly, if it weren’t for Hallie at LB Events and her awesome team, our special day wouldn’t have been as beautiful, fun and enjoyable. Having people coordinate moving guests from cocktails to the reception or timing of the meals are details you don’t want to be burdened with on your special day. Having a planner is especially important when you are at a location like Hummingbird Nest Ranch where you have to coordinate a lot of vendors and bring in almost everything including an entire kitchen. It is such a stress relief to have it taken care of for you not to mention feeling like a princess for the day!
