Chicas de Mayo: A Vibrant Celebration for the Girls!

cinco de mayo party

Who else is looking forward to kicking off the weekend with Cinco de Mayo this Friday?! We’re all for celebrating with a little TNT (tacos n’ tequila!) and here’s a quick history lesson just in case you don’t know why folks love to pull out the guac on the 5th of May: in 1862, Mexico defeated French forces in the Battle of Puebla, boosting morale in an unlikely victory against a well-equipped army. In the years since, Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican-American culture in the US, with parades + gatherings that almost always include dancing, food, and drinks. Sign us up!

Today we’ve got plenty of flare + fun, courtesy of Jacquelyn at Beijos Events: I love to throw a fun Cinco de Mayo party every year and this year was no exception! But this year I decided to go out and do a “Chicas de Mayo” – a girl’s day out at Puesto in beautiful San Diego for some margaritas & tacos!! I was inspired by the Otomi prints and used them for the beautiful invite by Twinkle & Toast and the fun place cards by The Roc Shop. The best part about Cinco de Mayo is getting to play with all of the vibrant colors, and Esther from Wallflower Inspiration really brought that out in the florals.

Amy Lynn Photography was there to snap photos of the colorful soiree. Let’s have a look!

Twinkle & Toast designed the paper goods and fun calligraphy! And how fun are those swizzle sticks from The Roc Shop?

Whenever I get ready for any gathering there are two online shops that I look to: One is Gunn & Swain, who carry my favorite blankets and home goods. I used their amazing Cocoa Beach blanket as a runner to anchor the table and their serape pillows.

The blooms are the handy work of Wallflower Inspiration. Love the mini cacti!

Jacquelyn picked up some handmade, artisan pieces from The Little Market to deck out the table. Love that! (Psst – check out the entire Fiesta collection!)

Depending on the type of person you are, you’re either obsessed with the look of those tacos or the ring :) If you’re the latter, that’s the 3 Stone Desert Love Ring from Hand Meets Sky!

Julia Wheeler styled the ladies in vintage dresses from Sunny and Cheer!

We decked the girls out in vintage and bright dresses so they could really feel like they were wearing the party! Cinco de Mayo is one of those holidays where you can really get festive with your attire so we rolled with it. Since their outfits were so fun and bright, we kept the makeup more neutral but added some fun lip color and braids. Jewels from Hand Meets Sky added to the pops of color with bright turquoise and beaded chandelier earrings.

THAT. BRAIDED CROWN. We have Emily Holliday to thank for the boho hair and make-up inspiration!

Ready for dessert heaven? What can I say, Hey There Cupcake really got this one right. That cake with the Otomi print was beyond perfect, the key lime panna cotta had us all head over heels, and the little llama cookies were unbelievably cute! Plus, everything was delicious!

SO pretty! We’ll take wallpaper, a summer dress, and bathroom tiles in this prints, please :)

Thanks to Jacquelyn Kazas of Beijos Events for sharing such a vibrant celebration with us. Wishing you all an equally bright + celebratory weekend!
