Marisa + Jason’s beautiful bohemian forest wedding, photographed by Heather Hawkins, was DIY in every sense of the phrase! From the invitations, to the flowers, to the ceremony + reception decor, with the help of talented family + friends, these two were up to the challenge of handcrafting their day + were able to create a celebration that was a meaningful reflection of their life together. And DIY brides, I’m pretty sure you’re about to be super inspired – I love all of the whimsical, unique details Marisa + Jason incorporated into their day!
From the bride, We met through a mutual friend and fell right into deep conversation about things we share passion about and opened each other’s eyes to new things to love. You see, we’re opposites, but we come together in so many great ways! We grabbed one another tight and held on for an amazing ride. Together we’ve melted over many great meals and drinks, danced our hearts out at concerts, and spent many a late night in deep conversations cozied up on our porch. True to our style, Jason proposed during one of those late conversations with the prefect vintage ring that still dazzles me. And of course we share so much love for our beautiful son Jameson who was our ring bearer and Jason’s best man. I’m so glad he came along early enough to share this momentous occasion with us!
Jason surprised Marisa with a beautiful bouquet + floral crown he made for her the day of the wedding! So, so sweet…
While I had my hand in almost all the decorations, Jason wanted to keep the ceremony site a surprise. He did let me wrap yarn around the trees with him, which turned into a fun time with our family and friends holding our ladders and laughing along the way. When I saw the ceremony site all put together for the first time walking down the aisle to my man, I was so overwhelmed with joy. It was perfect! From our officiant's calm demeanor to our good friends playing live versions of our favorite songs, it was exactly what we envisioned come to life. We each wrote our own vows and recited them to each other through tears of love and joy. We had a fun musical sing-a-long march back to the reception. I did somehow forget my bouquet that Jason made me, but we all laughed as my brother sprinted to the house to get it for me.
With help from both of our mom’s, we scoured estate sales and thrift stores for vintage glass, lace doilies, brass, and quilts in the months leading up to the wedding. We transformed vintage lace doilies into over 30 unique dream catchers that floated above our ceremony and dance floor. Jason used our secret love phrase, “iluyousmucho” for a mural which was truly a labor of love. He drew the typography and spent about 30 total hours hammering nails and wrapping yarn around them…
Big congrats to the happy couple on an absolutely gorgeous day!

The dream weavers and strings are amazing! Total inspiration!!!!
Thanks!
I adore your wedding, and I’ve found so much inspiration for our day. Can I ask what material you made your garlands out of? Is this ribbon or dyed cotton? Also what kind of yarn did you use for the trees?
Such a beautiful wedding :)

Sorry I’m way late on this reply, but we made the garlands out of old white sheets from home, thrift stores and estate sales. These were painstakingly ripped into strips and hand-dyed. My mom did all of these and would recommend dyeing them first and then ripping them so they don’t clump up into a mess when you dye them. The yarn was purchased from local hobby stores, but I don’t remember the brand. Hope that helps you or other future wedding DIYers!
This was such a beautiful wedding!! I love every detail of it. The part where you forgot your bouquet and your brother had to retrieve it is exactly what happened at my wedding….. We kept our outdoor ceremony very small and I was so worried about it running late that I completely forgot the bouquet my sister in law made and my brother came sprinting down with it after I already walked down “the aisle.” Glad I’m not the only one. You are so lucky to have such an artistic husband with so much creativity! Best of luck and happiness to both of you!
