An Herb Farm Wedding: Jen + Simon

herb farm wedding

I just love Jen + Simon’s wedding venue – the Peconic River Herb Farm on Long Island in New York! The venue was their biggest inspiration. From Jen: We knew from the very beginning that we wanted to have an outdoor wedding, and we were determined to find a venue that was open and rustic without it feeling contrived. The Peconic River Herb Farm is a completely charming and unique space, seemingly out of place on Long Island. We were completely in love with the gorgeous greenhouse, log cabin, and barn full of antiques. Best of all, it had absolutely nothing to do with weddings. We were so inspired by the simplicity of the space that we focused the wedding around personal touches to make it truly unique to us.

Congrats to Jen + Simon and just wait until you see the gorgeous photos from Trent Bailey Photography!

Creating a wedding that was meaningful to us was the most important aspect of our planning. The venue, the words we said to each other during the ceremony, the food we ate, and the music we danced to all had to have a connection to us. We made all of our decisions based on things we loved, even if people didn’t quite understand what we were going for. From having traditional Irish music while neither of us are Irish, to picking an herb farm over a catering hall for a wedding venue, we stuck to what we wanted and now have the most wonderful memories to look back on forever.

How sweet! Jen’s father built the arbor they were married under!

One that really sticks out in our memory is when we had a moment during our ceremony to tell one another what we mean to each other before we exchanged our vows. It was a way for us to slow all of the wedding craziness down and to just speak to one another.

Our wedding was completely outdoors with no rain back up plan, so we of course woke up to gray skies and rain clouds. It rained the whole time I was getting ready, and when Simon arrived at the herb farm he had to stay in his car to avoid a torrential downpour. We will never know how, but the rain stopped and the sun miraculously came out right in time for our ceremony! Words cannot describe how these unlikely turn of events added to the overwhelming joy we felt on our wedding day.

Don’t loose sight of what you’ve always wanted your wedding to be. It can become easy to want to please everyone while you are planning, but every aspect of your day should be meaningful to you. If you make your wedding a true reflection of who you are, then people will love it because they love you.

The best comment I have ever read on a wedding blog, “If you make your wedding a true reflection of who you are, then people will love it because they love you.” =)

  5. What an honor to be a part of Jen & Simon’s event from the beginning. It makes my heart want to cry with joy seeing the final outcome and how we kept it so true to who they are, organic in style and filled their personal wish-list. Mel of Gloster Hill executed the day flawlessly and the talented Trent of course captured the details wonderfully. What a wonderful team and wish it wasn’t already over. Congrats Jen & Simon!
