Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate with your plans for an outdoor ceremony, but if you have a great backup plan, it’s not a big deal! And that is exactly what happened to Julie + Ed. Their wedding was scheduled to be in Central Park but due to rain, they had to go with their backup plan – a photo studio in the SoHo district, which ended up being so unique + just perfect! Their reception was held at The Gutter which is a super fun bowling alley/bar located in Brooklyn. The side room was transformed into an elegant candlelit dinner and after dinner the guests enjoyed dancing and bowling – sounds like a fun time to me! :) I love that the couple designed so many elements for their day. The groomsmen wore driver style caps as it is the groom, Ed’s staple piece in his wardrobe. Flowers were put together by Julie and the bridesmaids. The reception flowers and decor were arranged by Julie’s pal and wedding designer Steve Doss. Thanks to Aimee + Troy of Troy Grover Photographers for the gorgeous photos!
From Julie, “Our biggest priority in planning the wedding was that people have fun! We wanted to have a big party with all our favorite people, so we decided to rent out our favorite spot in Brooklyn, The Gutter (bowling alley).”
We walked down the aisle to “Blue Skies”, exit song was “Orange Colored Sky.”
Most memorable moment from your wedding day? The wedding speech video. There were several members in our wedding party who could not attend the wedding, so we asked all of our wedding party and parents to make a wedding “speech” video. An editor friend of ours took all the videos and edited them into a little movie that was shown during dinner. It took my breath away, it was so beautifully done.
Any advice for those planning right now? My advice is to do what you want to do, no matter how wacky it may sound to other people. I thought my parents were going to die when we told them we were getting hitched in a bowling alley called “The Gutter”, but in the end I think everyone was blown away at how much fun it was!
Congrats Julie + Ed and thanks for sharing your day with us!

Love, love, love the striped bridesmaids dresses! So bright and pretty (and I sure they will wear them again in a second!) The entire wedding was charming, from bowling socks to table runners. Congrats.
Oh my gosh, I love that portrait of them kissing on the front stoop of the building with the rain in the foreground. Beautiful! And I love the way her dress fits her- definitely flattering!
LOVE the bridal party outfits. Those colors on the bridesmaids are scrumptious. What a fun day.
i love the mix of patterned and solid bridesmaids dresses, with the 3d flowers on the flowergirl’s dresses sprucing up the mix even more. so cute. and i agree with abby grace- love the picture of them on the stoop! i just sat and stared at it for a few minutes. ha

I just did a post about a wedding in a bowling alley! I was in Brooklyn on 7.3.11 and we tried going to The Gutter, but it was closed for a wedding and I thought that was amazing, and was trying to see inside. So so so happy to find these pictures. Thanks!

Can someone please tell me where the “custom” bowling socks came from??? I’d dying to get some for my son’s party!!!
These images are gorgeous! The rain adds a beautiful mood. Congratulations!
Wow, this is amazing! This is the same idea of what I’m planning for my wedding next year! How did you co-ordinate the ” first dance ” at the bowling alley? I know it may seem a silly question, but it is a moment I want to make sure happens. Thanks! I also love the sock idea!!
