Vintage-Inspired Australian Wedding With A Yellow Dress: Edyta + Matt

Happy Friday, lovelies! I’m so excited to share Edyta + Matt’s sweet, vintage-inspired wedding with you all today. This celebration was a true labor of love in every sense of the phrase! Edyta + Matt wanted the day to reflect who they are and all the things they love, and didn’t want to follow any traditions that didn’t seem to fit their style. So they planned everything together, with lots of help from family + friends. More from the lovely couple about handcrafting their day:

We spent countless hours collecting trinkets + decorations and enjoyed spending time figuring out the little details, like music. We wanted to do as much as we could on our own. Our friends + family all played an important role, too; from making decorations to decorating the marquee to making candles, favours, + wedding cakes. Our nephew + niece were our ring bearer + flower girl, my sister and cousin were my bridesmaids and Matt’s brother was his best man. Our mothers signed our marriage certificate and my little brother walked me down the aisle which was a very special moment for me. Matt’s mum, aunt and grandmother made and decorated our wedding cake together using a handwritten family recipe handed down from his great grandmother. The next day our friends and family all helped pack up, clean up + hand out all the flowers that were left over. Most of friends and family were able to stay at the property where the reception was held, so we celebrated the wedding over the weekend.

Thanks so much to Sandra Henri Photography for the beautiful photos + congrats to Edyta + Matt!

Edyta’s lovely dress was an original 1950’s prom dress from Sandie Bizys. Such a super-fun choice!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

We stole 15 minutes alone to walk to the reception together, our first time to be alone together and talk about everything. That was very special.

We wanted our wedding to reflect the feel of our house + garden and brought many items of furniture and collectibles with us from home to give it a cosy + genuine feeling.  Matt + I have both been vegetarians since we were teenagers, and love animals, so we also collected lots of little animal figurines to set up on tables and as decorations. And since we both love sweets, we had a desert table filled with lollies and treats which the kids (and adults) loved! We decorated the table with pictures of ourselves + our families, including beautiful old wedding photos of our grandparents.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Give yourself extra time to do everything you need to do – the days leading up are busy! Lists are very helpful. Don't take it too seriously and know that you will survive when things change on the day. We had a moment where our rings were missing. Delegate as much as you can to your friends and family – they all want to share the day with you and are generous with their time and energy. Choose people to work with that you get along with, our caterer and photographer made our day easy and fun. Most of all, enjoy the day. It goes by in a flash and is too short to worry, so roll with it.
