Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone spent some wonderful time with family + friends. And welcome to all our newly engaged couples! So excited to get back to sharing gorgeous real weddings and fun ideas for your wedding. We are starting the week off with a gorgeous real wedding sent over from photographer Cameron Ingalls. This couple actually found Cameron here on GWS so that makes it even more special. :)
From Danielle, “I was in love with the quirky-playful yet vintage-rustic vibe the venue had to offer so I really wanted to emphasize that. I chose to incorporate patchwork fabric, bold stitching, and fun patterns throughout the decor to give a little punch of color while maintaining the vintage-rustic element using old bottles and other antique pieces I’d borrowed or collected over time. Jeremy and I love “fancy” and “elegant” but it doesn’t embody our everyday life, so the more casual backyard picnic/ barnyard dance ambiance suited us well.
Most memorable moment of your wedding day? Hmmm… this is a difficult question. I think the fact that it poured rain the night before and into the morning, poured rain again just hours before our ceremony, and then miraculously cleared up to bring out beautiful blue skies with crisp white fluffy clouds was really something. Walking out of the dressing room just before the ceremony to see just how wonderful of a day it had turned out to be made me smile and think, “Yup… this is meant to be”.
Any advice for those planning now? I am a very detail-oriented person. For me, just sitting back and letting things fall into place as they should was difficult. Work hard in the beginning to set things in place. Play with all the ideas you like but narrow it down to a few that work well together. Learn to let go of the really small things and enjoy the process. There are details that you will want to spend hours perfecting and you will be the only person that is truly aware of its presence (or lack of presence). For my situation, the more homemade looking the better, which made it easier to accept the imperfections.
If you’re on a budget, like we were, really evaluate what is worth spending the large sums of money on. For us, we thought our photography and DJ were worthwhile investments. I enjoy crafts so I took on the decor myself with the help of a few wonderful family members. It saved a lot of money and really made me feel like our wedding was truly “us.” I purchased vintage bottles from flea markets and antique shops as I found them. The time between booking and crunch time is the time to get all these things done.
Finally, ask friends and family to help where they can. We had family members contribute their signature homemade desserts. My mom made all 33 table runners. And the day-of we had almost twenty relatives and friends show up to our house at eight in the morning to help load, transport, and set up all our decorations and supplies. It’s amazing what loved ones will do to help you. And the collective effort really makes the day that much more special.
