Playful, Art-Filled Chicago Wedding: Jenny + Eamon

Chicago Art Wedding

Jenny + Eamon may not have had experience planning a wedding before they said their I Do’s at Lacuna Artist Lofts Chicago, but they did know what their priorities would be. Jenny remembers, We agreed that all our hearts’ desired was good beer, good food, and good art to rule the day. And so begins the tale of how we made that happen. Everyone has their own opinions on what a wedding budget should be. My advice is to take all that you’ve read on the subject and forget it. You’ll find a way to make the amount you have work, and you’ll always feel like you spent way more than you should have. Eamon and I decided early on that when it came to money, we would put the largest emphasis on location, photography, and the ever important beer. The rest we’d figure out along the way.

And figure it out, they definitely did. These two created so many inventive and inspiring DIYs for their day, we almost don’t know where to begin! So, let’s check out the images by Brad & Jen, and we’ll share more details about some of our fave projects from this wedding – which were executed with the event design help of Jayne Weddings – throughout the post below!

We love this unique venue space so much, and Jenny shares more with us about how they found it, After a depressing tour of insanely expensive and flavorless venues around Chicago, a friend steered us toward Lacuna Artist Lofts, where he’d attended a rave a few weeks before. (Yes, much like you, I was totally unaware that rave locations and wedding venues would have any middle ground if placed in a Venn Diagram together.) Lacuna, situated right in the heart of Pilsen, fit so many needs for us. The neighborhood and venue are packed full of rich culture, wacky art, and glorious graffiti. I even rented out a studio on site for myself in the months before the wedding so I could work on the ceremony backdrop and get my art show together. (That’s right. We put on an interactive art show during cocktail hour. Complete with photography by yours truly and tap light wall display.) Lacuna also has a deck overlooking the Chicago skyline where we served Mama’s Nuts, Chicago hotdogs from Hubby’s, and killed a few kegs from Binny’s before the reception.

Jenny didn’t care much about having fresh flowers incorporated into the day, so she made her beautiful origami bouquet, and one for each of her bridesmaids, too. Such a creative and fun idea!

One of my favorite details from that day was our ceremony backdrop. It was no easy feat because of its size, roughly 9 feet by 15 feet. I even rented out a studio on site at Lacuna Artists Lofts so I could paint it!

During cocktail hour, we put on an art show with a few interactive pieces, photography, and various wall hangings. I love art that invites you in and gets people in a playful mood – like the tap light wall we created. It even makes another great backdrop for you photos. Needless to say, it was a blast and fun to take photos inside.

Decorating reception tables can be a bit overwhelming. I couldn’t have pulled this one off without help from my mom and Jayne Weddings. Using canvas and buckets of paint, my mom created these stunning geode slice table toppers. I pasted together these fractal geometric paper mache sculptures and made clay pyramid table numbers.

My last and final craft to share with y’all was one of my favorites. I created these paper mache letters that spelled out our names. Great end of the night photo op, I gotta say.

So, so cute! Big thanks to Jenny + Eamon for not only sharing their gorgeous day with us, but for sharing so many of their amazing DIYs as well!
