NYC Meets Montreal for this Industrial + Urban Wedding

Modern Minimal Canada Wedding

For many GWS couples, the dream wedding venue includes beautiful views, an inspiring color palette, interesting architecture, or unique details. For Peggy + Miles, it all started with a blank space. Montreal’s visual arts center, The Darling Foundry, offered the perfect urban setting and abounding white space to create something that truly matched the couple’s vision. Hera Mariages stepped in to plan the day’s events, one filled with food, music, a ceremony that was totally P+M, and even a choreographed first dance!

Here’s some insight as to how Peggy + Miles went about designing the day: We’re New Yorkers who love to dine out and have at least one date night a week. Our wedding was inspired by the ambiance and decor of some of our favorite restaurants: neutral, industrial, and hip. We really wanted every element to feel like it could have been chosen by either one of us, rather than being dominated by the bride’s taste (though in the end, Peggy did do most of the choosing!). We also tried to consider the environment as much as we could – the plants we used were all living and were donated to area retirement homes and hospitals afterwards, and we mostly sent out digital save the dates and invitations.

Jenn Emerling‘s photos always capture the most unique and beautiful moments of the day, and she certainly didn’t disappoint for P+M!

What a photo! What a shoe! These rose gold babies are by Sophia Webster and yes, they certainly deserve their time in the spotlight!

Peggy’s pretty half up-do and makeup were done by Wonderblush Montreal (doesn’t she look beautiful?!) and as for that dress…

One major change in P+M’s ceremony? They decided to forego the aisle!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Do things that feel true to you and don't worry about what other people expect. Your guests know and love you and they'll enjoy the wedding more if they feel that it reflects your personality. If you're someone who doesn't like flowers, don't get flowers! For us, the idea of walking down an aisle filled us both with dread, so we opted to have a very small, informal and short ceremony in the side room surrounded only by our family and closest friends. A few people fussed a bit in advance, but they ultimately understood and it made the event so much more comfortable and memorable for us.

Between the hanging plants, furniture from Joe’s Prop House, and tabletop rentals from Location Gervais, P+M’s industrial restaurant inspiration felt right at home in the art gallery.

Prune Les Fleurs brought in all the greenery–and what a GREAT idea to donate plants and other items after the day’s done!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

We're both close to Peggy's best friend who was the man of honor. His speech was the only time Peggy cried during the wedding and it was an emotional moment for both of us, especially when he insisted we follow a Norwegian wedding tradition (he's 100% Norwegian) by standing on our chairs during the dinner reception and kissing in front of the crowd!

For the first dance, Peggy + Miles choreographed a show-stopper than began slow and traditional with Poison by Rita Ora, then broke out into a hip-hop style dance to a “Canadian Medley” featuring Drake (Hotline Bling), The Weeknd (Can’t Feel My Face) and Bieber (Sorry). So fun!! Phil from The Flashdance provided the music and entertainment for the night!

A final important aspect? P+M insist that if you have the budget for it, hire a wedding videographer. After watching Wade Koch‘s interpretation of the day, you’ll know why! See how the venue came together, grab some dance moves, and get ready to feel the love, because this video totally encapsulates the entire day in 4 perfect minutes:

Love it!! Thanks to Jenn Emerling for sharing the beautiful day with us and many congrats to Peggie and Miles!
