Out in the Wilderness: Modern Meets Rustic Wedding in Idaho

Rural Idaho Wedding

The wind was whipping, the storm was a-brewin’, and things we’re definitely not going as planned — up until the final moments before the ceremony. Clouds rolled in, huge gusts snapped two of the standing umbrellas, and everyone was scrambling to try to put the pieces back together. Fortunately, just as the ceremony started, the clouds seemed to retreat and the sky was peaceful. Coincidence? We think not. ;)

Even though things weren’t going as planned, you would’ve never guessed it by how beautiful everything came together! (We find this to be a common occurrence at weddings — so future brides, just remember that everything is going to be A-OKAY!) Lolly + Dylan envisioned a Black Tie Event, but here’s the twist — in the middle of a barley field! Something organic with an intimate feeling, yet modern and dressed up. We totally dig that idea!

Lolly tells us: It took us about two years to figure out where we wanted to get married, because we wanted it to be memorable and meaningful. After checking out numerous wedding destinations (including Mexico and Hawaii), we realized our hearts were actually in Malad, Idaho where Dylan’s grandparents live and have a beautiful family ranch. We go there every summer for the Fourth of July and celebrate with our family by enjoying all the small town festivities.

What better location to say your vows than a place with such significance to your relationship? Let’s venture to the barley field in all the snaps by Braden Young Photo!

How dreamy are those rolling hills covered in wild grasses? The *PERFECT* place for a first look!

Who else is *OBSESSING* over Lolly’s gown?! So modern, so cool, so chic! And guess what — she designed it and her friend’s mom, Sonia Cuellar, created it!

The Ceremony Space

Letting the scenery speak for itself, they set up a minimal ceremony space… And we LOVE IT! The way the aisle is framed with white flowers? Genius.

That magic MOMENT! Oh my gosh, we can totally feel all the joy emanating from this photo. So much love!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The most memorable moments happen when you least expect them and for us it started with a storm that came through our location, just as everything had been finalized and setup. Only a few guests had arrived when heavy winds and clouds blew through the reception area, blowing over all of the umbrellas (this happened twice!), snapping two of them, and turning over a table. Minutes before the charter bus full of remaining guests arrived, Dylan, in his tux, was still scrambling to get everything setup again. It was all hands on deck up until a few minutes before the ceremony because the wind wouldn't stop. But just as the ceremony was starting, the wind died down and the dark clouds went away leaving the perfect backdrop for us to say "I do". We had an incredible sunset as the ceremony finished, and, to top it all off, we were visited by a beautiful team of grazing horses that stood perfectly behind us in the field. For all the hard work it took our families, it just felt like the perfect moment.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Enjoy the process and take your time! Just because you get engaged doesn't mean you have to start planning right away! The engagement doesn't expire! If you don't love planning then get someone to help you, it will make the process more enjoyable for you and your love. Lastly, do what YOU want and listen to your gut... its about YOU and your soon to be partner-in-life!

We asked Lolly + Dylan what married life has been like so far, and their response is ADORABLE: Married life is like having a sleepover with your best friend EVERY NIGHT! Who wouldn’t want that?

Congrats + best wishes to the both of you!
