Modern Art: Minimalist Wedding Inspiration at a Catskills Mountain Home

Pottery Room Inspiration

Inspired by the modern art movement, the intimate Foxfire Mountain House in the Catskills, and the minimalist, yet creative décor that makes the house into a home, AOK Style + Planning teamed up with photographer, Ashley Caroline Photography, for today’s editorial! Expertly decorated and curated with a multitude of unique pieces, the team found themselves falling in love with the house’s dining alcove, which is covered floor to ceiling with shelves of old-world flatware, champagne buckets, and pottery.

Allison of AOK Style + Planning shares: We wanted our couple to be influenced by the style of New York City, but have a penchant for relaxation… We pictured our city-dwelling couple escaping to the mountains for a love-filled weekend with friends and family for a minimalist gathering with a neutral palette and special touches.

Let’s see the inspiration firsthand!

The invitation suite was hand-lettered by Bek Barcocy with butterfly envelope liners which tied into the secluded and nature-filled venue.

Florals by Nectar & Root included brown orchids, garden roses, foxglove, and peonies as well as heuchera leaves in tones of burgundy and acidic green.

Marble salt cellars filled with beautiful Himalayan sea salt and handmade beeswax candles brought color into the otherwise moody dining alcove, which was decorated with sand-colored linen tablecloths and charcoal grey napkins.

Nectar & Root created floral designs inspired by the venue’s contrasting interior, with its mix of sparse white rooms and dark and moody living spaces. Erin (the florist) incorporated shades of nude, bronze, deep mahogany and cream for an earthy palette inside dark matte black vases, and she pulled pops of yellow and mauve into the florals as well, to accent the pottery room and its eclectic feel.

The stylist, Allison, selected a simple satin sheath gown by Charlie Brear from Schone Bride, and adorned the sharp lookin’ groom in an unfussy and un-done tux from The Black Tux.

The sense of casual, but chic, style was carried through to his burgundy velvet loafers, her beautiful hand-embroidered Rebecca Schoneveld cape, and modern rings from Erstwhile Jewelry.
