Talk About a Fast Track to Love! This Couple Got Married on a Railway in Greece.

Woodstock inspired wedding in Greece

Getting married is a special once-in-a-lifetime occasion, so it’s important that you do it right! Maria and Filimon followed their hearts when it came to their special day and created a fantastical Woodstock-themed event…and held it on a railway! Greece’s Pelion Railway is one of the oldest in the country. And, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful. As frequent visitors to the village of Mileai, Maria and Filimon often found themselves walking along the Pelion railway tracks with their dogs for a peaceful weekend getaway. This peaceful spot naturally became their number one choice to host their dream wedding.

Maria Lilly, an interior designer, instantly connected with their wedding planner, Georgia Apostolidou of Pompon Story Events. The vision was to create a whimsical mini version of Woodstock. How cool is that?! With the help of experts like Konstantino’s Art and Comme Ça Fleurs & Décor – the wedding went off without a hitch.

Woodstock wouldn’t be the same without a little love from The Beatles.

groom and groomsmen in mismatched suits

We all know (and love!) the look of mismatched bridesmaid’s dresses. However, we don’t often see this trend attempted by the groomsmen. If these fellas are any indication of how this trend can work – we hope to see it way more often!

The wedding ceremony was held in a traditional Greek Orthodox chapel in the town square. The setting was already so beautiful, no additional decor was needed!

In keeping with the carefree, boho vibe, Maria Lilly chose to wear a gown by Rue de Seine. The dress was expertly adorned with matching armbands, as well as a flower crown.

Woodstock wedding seating chart

The seating chart for the couple’s 200 guests used the same watercolor theme as the wedding invitations. The designs used combined elements of both Cypriot and Italian traditions, making the event a true union between two separate entities.

Dinner for 200

Serpentine wedding table on railway

The couple opted for a serpentine reception table design. We love these tables for how intimate the interactions get to be – even with a party of 200 guests!

You may be asking yourself, “How did they manage to do this on a railway?” or “Is this train line still active?”. Both are great questions! The answer is yes, the railway still actively has trains pass by. One small train passes through every 15 hours. This means that the vendors had only 7 hours to set up and deconstruct this masterpiece of a wedding. That’s true talent!

Edison lights made for a perfect standout fixture over the table as the sun began to set.

Place settings were where the wedding’s color scheme came to life. Sage green, terracotta, and rusty yellows all looked spectacular against the wood grain of the table.

Little vases in terracotta and honey yellow hues with luscious florals embellished this long table. Art de la table consisted of glassware and dishware with a traditional design, napkins in various colors of the used palette, and handmade personal favors for guests.
