If you’ve ever had the pleasure of venturing in the Basque region (an area of Northern Spain, on the border of Spain and France), you already know how magical the place is… Situated far from any major cities, the Basque Country is rich with history, culture, and remarkable nature and traditions. A true hidden gem. Wanting to highlight this region, Vasver Photography teamed up with planner + stylist, Adriana Cadet, founder of The Creative’s Loft, to create this stunning elopement in the Basque region.
Located among the hills and in the shadow of the mountain La Ruhne (also known as Larrun), today’s setting takes place at a little old farm, built in 1824. Featuring a typical Basque facade, made of wood and stone, the unique décor set the tone for the day.
Ready to explore the property? Let’s take a look + fall in love with the Basque region…
The couple fell in love while working as models in the fashion industry; as they both model for top fashion brands — their vision for their elopement was inspired by contrasts: haute couture meets the rustic countryside!
The two really wanted to celebrate their origins and all the details that brought them to this day; hence, the reasoning behind picking this gorgeous spot in the Basque Country (we’d pick it for aesthetics alone!). But for them, it was more than just appearance — the spot was full of Basque culture details: they played Cesta Punta, a traditional ball game of Basque origin, vintage farm tools, which were used by Basque Shepherds to work in their farms and cold fields, and of course, antique illustrations and wall arts with old Basque traditions…
The bride wore a stunning two-piece dress designed by Otaduy, located in Barcelona. Paired with a breathtaking and unique headpiece designed by Tocados Oh — custom made for the bride and inspired by vintage headpieces wore by affluent Basque ladies. Artsy earrings in a pale blue with gold details, gold shoes and glittering jaw-dropping make up done by Naira Decantelmi gave the bride an overall elegant + original look.
One of the most memorable moments of their day happened when Eder invited Miren to dance... However, he did not want to do it in a typical way, he took his wife and lifted her on top of a table to dance to one of their favorite songs: "My Girl" by Otis Redding. They laughed, celebrated their love and danced ’til the sun went down.
We wanted a memorable celebration where the place could talk by itself about our real origins and also helped us stand out as the two only human beings among so much beauty and traditions. We selected this spot because of it’s uniqueness and originality; we wanted to have a very Basque Elopement Celebration and made it happen.
The tablescape was designed according to the space; the team purchased fresh fruits from the local market that morning, which paired perfectly with the elegant, semi-naked cake from Etchebaster Boulangerie. Throughout the evening (when taking intermittent breaks from dancing), the coupled dined on a delicious customized menu from a local French bistro.
Soft browns, yellows, light blues and greens combined with the clean off white… How we love the subtle notes of autumn in this tablescape!
An elopement is not easy to plan; it requires a lot of thinking in terms of the vision that the two of you have. It is crucial to have an art direction team that speaks the same language in terms of aesthetics and who can leverage your vision to the fullest from the beginning. Be yourself, always, that's the way to go! Your photographer will catch the pure vibe and essence of you and your partner. Seek for a unique spot that inspires both of you as a couple; it needs to talk about your personality and your unique love. Dress for the occasion and the most important thing of all... HAVE FUN & MAKE IT SPECIAL!
Refined beauty, yet utterly rustic… How we’d like to be venturing around the Basque region right about now!
