Glamorous Texas Wedding with Dazzling Moroccan Details

Vibrant Moroccan Wedding

Gilded tapestries, bright blue accents, textured details, and a story that takes us around the world is just a snippet of what we’ve got in store for you today! Not to be deterred by a bumpy first date,  Morgan + Wade’s relationship took off with one bold, adventurous step. The couple fell in love as they travelled to far-off destinations and they captured all the elements of a Moroccan wedding celebration at their magical ceremony in Comfort, Texas.

Morgan filled us in on the inspiration behind the day: Naturally inclined to bohemian fabrics and things that sparkle, we knew we wanted our big day to mimic as much of Morocco as possible. It had been by far the most challenging and most magical of locations during our travels. We stayed nearly two weeks in the remote Rif mountain-side village of Chefchaouen, a town known for being painted in its entirety in various shades of blue. Evenings were spent at the village’s hill-top mosque, goats amuck everywhere, watching the sun create an ethereal blue glow with its evening descent. That feeling, the enchantment, was exactly what we wanted to recreate and the Moroccan wedding blanket, many of which we purchased, served as our inspiration.

From a thin cot in Cambodia I immediately booked Katherine Lopez of Sweet August Events. I’ve known and adored Katherine for years and knew I needed her on our Moroccan wedding team. Katherine has a way of reading the bridal-mind and I didn’t have to say much, she knew exactly how to bring our wedding dreams to life. She began to unfold vintage brass dishes, natural textiles, geode stationary and tabletop decor, Majorelle blue sofas and puffs, and floral designs with olive branches, spray roses, and black-eyed anemones. Katherine even spent a full year growing and bathing air plants in her bathtub for my big day – total dedication.

If Morgan’s words haven’t yet swept you away, the dreamy shots by Allie Segura of Mint Photography are certain to do the trick. Let’s have a look!

Wade and I have been acquaintances for some time, although our story really didn’t take hold until after we’d adorned the proverbial academic caps and planted our feet into adulthood. By then Wade had grown much in height and my chicken legs filled out. Facebook had surpassed its peak and transitioned into the new “it” way of creeping on potential love interests. It began there, with Sinatra lyric-postings and chats of our love for all things chocolate.

Just STUN-NING, isn’t she? And we love how the entire ceremony + reception tied back to the tapestry.

Our first date, several months later, was a complete disaster. In fact, the symphony tickets and plans for a chocolate tour of downtown Fort Worth were never used as countless tornados touched down that day. A few weeks later I took a new position back home and packed my bags. But sweet Wade, unbelievably shy in every facet, pursued and we met six months later. He came with chocolate in hand, dimples bursting at the seams. You have to hand it to him, the man did his homework – Sinatra, chocolate, orchestras – becoming putty in his hands was inevitable. We spent our first full week together over the 2013 Christmas holiday. During that time I somehow managed to convince Wade to the crazy notion of selling his house, quitting his job, and traveling the world with me. He obliged, marking the agreement in writing.

A year and half later, without much to our names, we left Texas in chase of adventure. From that departure, we endured and explored so much – couch surfing with strangers, dining at an illegal hot spot in Lisbon, surviving Moroccan markets, sleeping under the stars in the Sahara, gorging on pizza in Florence, haggling our way through Thailand, pet sitting in Koh Samui, bicycling through Cambodia’s century-old temples, counting down the 2015 New Year with the Aussies, and bungee jumping in Queensland. And the most memorable moment of all, climbing to the top of a mountain in Positano. There Wade proposed, snuggled close with clouds tangled at our feet, and one of the world’s most breath-taking views in front of us.

Capturing the wedding was, of course, one of most important details to lock down. When Katherine recommended Allie Segura of Mint Photography, I didn’t hesitate. I loved the whimsical airy look to her photos. We booked an old stone venue, The Ingenhuett on High, in Comfort Texas, and brought on 2tart for hand-painted cakes and TruFlavors to recreate a Moroccan feast.

Here is where those blue details truly shine! And how about those air plants that Katherine grew in her bathtub? Between the textures and color of the tablescape, you’d never know you weren’t in Morocco.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

On our special day, we stood in front of our hanging Moroccan wedding blanket, candles and lanterns blushing at our feet, and read our hand-written vows as the sun began to take its rest. Everything truly was magical and aglow that evening. Cat Edmonson wafted through the air and guests were treated to champagne cocktails and giant cheeseboards. Similar to the Moroccan way of dining, Katherine crafted continuous seating and foods were passed around the table family-style. And guests were gifted the item that first brought Wade and I together, chocolate.

The remainder of the evening was spent drinking and dancing in merriment, the way all great celebrations should be spent, as family. Wade and I marked our first dance as husband and wife to Van Morrison’s Tupelo Honey. And around the stroke of midnight we departed into the starry night, down an isle of sparkles, surrounded by all our favorite magical faces.
