Nestled between the Santa Ynez foothills + the Pacific Ocean, the historic Dos Pueblos Ranch in Santa Barbara set the scene for today’s gorgeous styled shoot. Pulling inspiration from Frida Kahlo’s art + life, the team behind this romantic wedding inspiration paid homage to this prolific artist by layering beautiful + bold details and incorporating unique elements of her Mexican Heritage throughout. And even though this is a seemingly specific theme, I really think you’ll find that so many of the inspiring design ideas can easily adapt to other wedding styles or celebrations. Here’s more from Nicole of Hint of Chic, the stylist behind the shoot:
An abandoned greenhouse hosts the simple, organic ceremony based off the infamous French Vogue cover featuring Frida. Rose-heads float amidst the ombré green ribbon, acting as a sensuous backdrop to the ceremony. Behind the ribbon, a gilded frame showcases the sacred heart milagro, blessing the union between husband and wife. Completing the overall look, two large, spiked agave flank the alter, adding an edgy element to the otherwise feminine ceremony…
I love the gorgeous images captured by Ashleigh Taylor Photography.
Leaving behind the varying shades of green, passionate reds and vivid oranges appropriated from Frida’s art dominated the reception color palette, popping against a dilapidated horse stable. Mixed patterns and textures create an eclectic mosaic on the sweetheart table, complete with authentic floral plates from Mexico and carved wooden charges. Lush flower arrangements set in bright hand-painted bowls are capped by gold-dipped deer antler, giving a artful nod to Frida’s Wounded Deer painting.
