For the Love of Lavender + Mud Cloth: A Bohemian Backyard Wedding

Boho Backyard Wedding

For those that love all shades of purple, did you know that ultra violet is Pantone’s color of the year (we actually created this DIY ultra violet veil in honor of the hue!)? Katie has always loved purple, even before it cycled in as Pantone’s fave of 2018, so she and planner, Aly of Luna Wild Design, thought it’d be fun to incorporate tons of lavender, along with moody bohemian details, like mud cloth. When you grow up in a place as spectacular as San Diego, you don’t have to look far for a wedding venue… In fact, Katie + Dylan said their vows in the backyard of her parent’s house!

Here’s Katie with a little more about the inspiration: Since we were having a backyard wedding, we wanted to find a way to make it feel special and not just like any other event or get together we had with family and friends in the past. We wanted to go for all out romantic, with hits of bohemian chic. My favorite color is purple, so that was the primary color, along with a bunch of greenery and other textures incorporated in the overall design.

Let’s take a tour in the photos snapped by Studio Castillero. Shall we?

Lavender + dusty rose are such a darling combo, aren’t they? Twinkle and Toast nailed this invitation suite! Just wait ’til you see how they combined them for all the other details!

The Ceremony Space

What a backyard! We adore how they framed the ceremony space with the rustic doors + overflowing florals.

Boho Backyard Wedding

Our friends and family are very important to us, so we not only wanted our special day to be about us, but about those people who have always been there to support us. We each had one of our sisters read a poem during our ceremony, and we had a family member officiate our ceremony.

The Wedding Party

mismatched bridesmaids

Hello, lovely ladies! The bridesmaids wore an array of different styles — several of these can be found on Show Me Your Mumu.

What better way to round out the purple palette than with a bit of neutrals?

The Moody Boho Reception

Isn’t this lounge with pieces from Stecklair Event Rentals GORGEOUS?! We adore the use of pink to round out all the purple hues + those textures really make it all come together.

The Tablescape

Luna Wild Design shares: We wanted to create a relaxed backyard vibe, but we also wanted elevate touches such a a killer table top and intentional details.

To do this, they pulled mud cloth for the table runner + textured pink napkins from Hostess Haven, along with a collection of luxe gold items, including: flatware, candle holders, and goblets.

We loved how from our sweetheart table we could see all of our guests and be with them, but yet we had our special time with each other after becoming husband and wife.

Another important part we wanted to focus on was making sure our guests were having as great of a time as we were… so we had a fun photo booth + multiple bars during cocktail hour, as well as a beautiful lounge area with an amazing backdrop as the sun was setting!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Enjoy it! It feels like you’re planning it forever, and in the blink of an eye it is done. I highly recommend a wedding planner (Aly was a saint)! Not once was I stressed during the planning and day of, because she was such a rockstar and made all of our visions and dreams come true and run so smoothly. I also recommend getting a videographer. Things happen so quickly and the day goes by so fast, I love watching our wedding video as well as the raw footage every now and then to relive the day.

Overall, I would not have changed one single thing from that day. Every little detail was absolutely perfect, I could not have asked for a better team of vendors.

What a sweet way to finish off the day! Congratulations, K+D!!
