Today we’re sharing some gorgeous wedding inspiration from a somewhat unexpected source: Dutch still life paintings! When you stop to think about it, it makes total sense. Art inspires so much, including so many incredible weddings, but we love how the team behind this stunning shoot – photographer Andria Lo and the team at Hawthorn Flower Studio – really took the idea of infusing art into a setting and went on to produce such an expressive editorial. Hawthorn Flowers shares more about their concept below:
This shoot draws inspiration from the drama and curiosity of the Old World, as illustrated in Dutch Renaissance paintings. Here, the Old World finds beauty through encounters with the new. We chose to emphasize the contrast between light and dark to add a dramatic flair. On the table, a lush arrangement of white clematis and burgundy peonies, plum branches, tulips, fritillaria, anemones and lily of the valley. Tablescapes resemble artful still lifes invoking simple pleasures.
We love this floral print dress for bridesmaids or a bride who wants to wear something totally unconventional! This black Marchesa ball gown or this strapless Versace gown might be just as dramatic + fun!
The small-batch vegan and organic wedding cake used a vanilla bean buttercream filling and was topped with berries to give it an artful, patina-like finish.
A big thanks to the talented team of creatives below for sharing their work with us today. And if you love this inspiration, be sure to also check out this Dutch Still Life Dinner Party to see another take on this theme. :)

Thanks for the feature GWS! We had so much fun working on this shoot. Best part was pairing oddities, like horse skulls or chicken wings, with beauty. Would do it all over again!
Can you share more about this dress? Who is the designer?
So beautiful! Very, very well done! The photography is perfect for this look and the flowers are so rich and moody! I love it!!
What an amazing arrangement. Beautiful and spot on.
I love this! So dramatic and so beautiful at the same time. If my fiancee ever gets off his bum and puts his guest list together, I want something like this for my wedding!
@Juli– the dress is Alice and Olivia. Gorgeous, yea? The detailing around the waist is real leather. Love the contrast against the hammered silk.
