Lindsey + Trevor have a deep love for art + design. He has a background in architecture and she in visual arts + display. The main inspiration for their early fall DIY wedding was their gorgeous venue, The Metropolitan Building in Queens, New York. At first sight, they fell in love with the raw wood + exposed brick and saw their wedding as a chance to fulfill their shared passion for finding old objects and making them new again. So a handmade celebration was the only way to go. They built their own wedding backdrop, put together the tablescape centerpieces, even tackled the floral design, with the help of a few talented friends. Total DIY gurus, these two.
Let’s get right to it + check out the beautiful photos by Turn Loose The Art!
Guys, this dress! Lindsey found it at a Pronovias sample sale and the train was altered to incorporate hand-dyed indigo fabric, stitched in by her mom + aunts. We’re blown away!
Lindsey + Trevor constructed a large weaving installation from reclaimed wood + fabric trims that acted as the backdrop for their ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony the bride’s side had the fabric pieces in the front, while the wood pieces were in front on the groom’s side. Instead of a unity candle, the bride and groom had their families come up and assist them in weaving the pieces together while Mike Hopper of Trading Ashes sang a song.
One of the most notable design features was the lighting fixtures created by Cassidy Brush of Urban Chandy in Brooklyn. Cassidy and her team did a full installation for Trevor & Lindsey and it was breathtaking, right?
Such fun tablescape design! Loving the organic, artful feel. Bravo, Lindsey + Trevor!
Make every detail personal and don't do things a certain way because that's what is "supposed" to happen. Use your friends and families. They will be honored to be a part and it makes for wonderful memories.

GORGEOUS wedding….
Loved looking through all the photos. The location is full of character and truly lends itself to make gorgeous wedding photos.
Where is your necklace from? It is gorgeous and exactly the style I am looking for! What a beautiful wedding. Thanks!
The necklace was made by our friend and awesome jewelry designer/blogger, fashionista extraordinaire, Joanne Gigliotti! She made these for me as bridesmaids gifts and also made me a chain ring-bracelet that I wore. Check out her blog athousandfacets on tumbler and other social media outlets! Joanne is also the one who connected my husband to Shane Yamane, our ring designer!
Who built the ceremony structure? Wow! What a gorgeous design.
My husband and I created the piece as our backdrop and ‘unity’ piece. It represents the two coming together, individual lives woven together into one in marriage. Our families helped with the actual weaving during the ceremony, a very special moment:) The fabric being feminine and the wood being masculine, we each picked out the elements individually and then he built the frame. Most of the wood you see (including the table centerpieces) came from Build It Green NYC, an incredible treasure trove for any DIYer in the NYC area! The piece is now installed on our living room wall:)
That’s our wedding! So cool to see others are inspired to DIY! There’s a LOT of inspiring ideas out there, stick to what spotlights who you are as a couple. The day after all, is about the unity of two becoming one:) We loved our wedding and are forever grateful for the incredible talent and support from everyone involved! Thanks so much sharing our wedding here!
Outstanding location, captured well.
I’m getting married at the Metropolitan Building in September! Your wedding pictures are beautiful. Do you think it’s necessary to rent extra lighting here?
