Colorful Bohemian Wedding: Leigh Ann + Armando

bride and groom

When Leigh Ann + Armando started the process of planning their wedding, they knew the biggest challenge would be their small budget – $5000 budget to be exact. They knew finding the perfect venue for their day with their limited budget would be difficult, but as soon as they found the Los Penasquitos Ranch House in San Diego, they knew they found it. With the 1800’s adobe ranch house, it was the perfect fit for the fun, bohemian wedding they dreamt of. And even better, they rented it for $600!!

Leigh Ann is close friends with Melissa from Pow Wow and with Melissa’s lead, they worked together on designing Leigh Ann’s dream wedding. They wanted the day to be a “kick back experience for their guests with a lot of color, good grub, cold drinks, fun games, and rad tunes.” Love it and wait until you the amazing aisle runner made of dyed sawdust! Stunning. Congrats to Leigh Ann + Armando!

From Melissa of Pow Wow: I’ve always dreamed of creating an Alfombra aisle runner but I knew it would be very time consuming which is why I had to wait for the perfect opportunity. This was it. I dyed sawdust, dried it in the sun for days and bagged it up. On the day of, with the help of my daughter Delilah, we busted it out in a little over an hour with a stencil I handmade. I love how it tuned out and realize the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to do another!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

My favorite moment of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing the smiling faces of all our friends and family, and my man waiting for me at the end. The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing the colorful tassels in the wind, birds were chirping. It was a truly magical moment that I will remember forever.

Melissa built a large table number display out of reclaimed wood which would tie in the design of the Alfombra and Ikat runners used on the tables. Colored paper cut into chevrons were nailed to the board with upholstery tacks.

Leigh Ann wanted something to represent her dad, grandfather and Armando’s dad who have all passed, so she decided to display a pair of each of their cowboy boots along with potted moon cactus, handmade gods eyes and tassel’s.

Leigh Ann collected vintage postcards which the guests wrote well wishes on and hung on twine which created a cool postcard streamer around the DJ.

Our wedding could never have been such a perfect day without the help of some amazingly talented friends and family. Melissa from Pow Wow vintage rentals and I met in design school, and have been creative soul sisters ever since. Working with her is always a blast, but designing my wedding together was a dream come true. Her creative vision always inspires me. My lovely friend Heather of Sweet Revelry Events hand painted the welcome sign, dessert sign, and adorable arrow cake toppers, as well as the day of coordination. My mom hand made hundreds of yarn tassel’s, sewed the table runners out of ikat curtain panels, and ceremony canopy. There really are too many DIY projects to name individually… Let’s just say it was a true labor of love! In addition to friends and family, we had a total dream team of vendors. They all totally got our vision for the day, and were amazing to work with. Our wedding wouldn’t have been the same without them! We all had a fabulous time, and at the end of the day it’s always the love and laughter that makes a wedding so magical. However, it was a ridiculous amount of fun designing the space for all of that love and laughter to be shared in:)

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

My advice to couples planning their wedding is to let the day be a reflection of you as a couple. Everyone will give you an opinion, but the only thing that matters is that you create a day both of you can look back on with happy hearts.
