A Perfect Blend: Modern Multi-Cultural Wedding in Austin, Texas

Modern Multi Cultural Wedding

Bethany and Vivek’s double wedding was not only a blending of families, but also a blending of cultures. With traditional Indian elements mixed with modern ones, the duo celebrated their unique relationship in the only way they saw fit: a day jam-packed with two ceremonies, planned perfectly by Carmen Collins for Bird Dog Weddings!!

B+V share with us: We wanted to honor our families by incorporating elements from both of our cultures. In the morning, we had a traditional Hindu ceremony featuring fresh floral garlands and vibrant colors. In the evening, we paid homage to Bethany’s family with a Christian ceremony and live music from a bluegrass band. We also tried to inject elements of our own personality and style into the day, starting with the venue. As a designer, Vivek wanted a minimal and modern space while Bethany wanted an outdoor setting that reflected her rural Texas roots. Prospect House was the perfect blend of both and felt very “us”.

Let’s wander the grounds of the Prospect House in Austin, Texas and see how they pulled it off in the photos by Feather & Twine!

The two are design aficionados and chose distinctive color palettes for each wedding. The morning Indian wedding featured bright, punchy colors like marigold, hot pink, and orange — sooooo gorgeous with those hanging carnations!

Bethany and Vivek’s vision was brought to life by Carmen Collins of Bird Dog Wedding with the help of Rosehip Flora. They collaborated to incorporate carnation strands (flown in all the way from India!) and citrus fruits to go with the bright florals in the morning, with neutral blooms and trailing eucalyptus runners on dining tables in the evening.

After the morning Indian ceremony, guests enjoyed a brunch featuring their favorite Indian foods served up by India Oven. The flavorful meal was perfectly complemented with mimosas and other brunch cocktails created by She + Him Bartending.

After a midday break, guests returned to Prospect House in the evening to see the space completely transformed. The American wedding was based on a neutral color palette with a focus on wooden textures.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Vivek: The most memorable moment for me was seeing Bethany in her wedding dress for the first time. We were both a little stressed from making sure everything transitioned smoothly in the time between ceremonies. Turning around during our first look and seeing Bethany in her dress really solidified for me what was about to happen. The pure joy I felt in that moment washed away all the stress I’d been feeling.

Bethany: For me, the Hindu ceremony was a really special experience because of how involved both of our families were. The ceremony highlighted not only the commitment we were making to each other as bride and groom, but also symbolized our families opening their arms to one another and embracing our union.
