’70s-Inspired Disco Vibe Wedding in Sydney

Boho 70s Australia Wedding

We had a very clear idea in our heads that we wanted to have a party, not a traditional wedding.” When that’s the first line we read from the bride + groom, we know it’s gonna be one spectacular event! Eden + James are both very creative people — Eden with her design + James with his music, so they wanted their big day to be a reflection of that. Inspired by the energy + nostalgic vibes of ‘70s disco, the duo wanted something akin to ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ set outdoors in their home of Sydney, Australia. The bride, Eden Abagi, along with designer She Designs made that all come to fruition!

Eden shares We wanted disco balls and orange tinted glass with berry hues surrounded by timber and Sputnik chandeliers everywhere! We had a very large dance floor with a collection of our friends from different bands making up one big super group thrashing out tunes all night long.

Ready to get your disco on? Let’s check out all the groovy photos captured by Lara Hotz Photography!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

It would probably have to be walking down the aisle together... It was such a magical moment, both holding each other's hand so tight, all we saw was a wall of color being showered into us, and hear our families and loved ones cheering. It was truly special.

What a reception room at the Merribee House!! The whole place was decked out with Sputnik chandeliers, glam touches, and of course, lots of florals festooned from the ceiling.

We both love our rosé, and as it was set in the middle of summer, frosé was the obvious choice of course (click on over HERE for our recipe)! Throw in personally designed denim patches for guest to take home and a punk show with the groom’s band, Beerwolf — I think we achieved the most perfect balance of both wedding and party!

Eden shares a bit about the proposal: It was my 30th birthday, and I had planned a trip to Hunter Valley with about 15 of our friends. I was all stressed out, frantically trying to make everything go smoothly. The night before the wine tour, James said he wanted to take me somewhere before we go (I wrongly assumed it was breakfast), so we got up early and James drove me to this secluded patch of bushland complete with a sweet babbling brook! He pulled out a picnic basket with all my faves — and our dog!! Theo started rolling in something and then I starting yelling, trying to get up stop him… James was trying to get my attention the whole time, and it took me a second to realize that he was down on one knee in front of me! “I was just wondering if you would marry me?” I nearly died, *cue ugly crying* and of course I said YES! We soon went back to the house where the rest of our friends were cheering, and we all went on to have a huge party.
