Studio 54 Got a Cowboy Makeover in This Texan Ranch Wedding

Studio 54 Meets Texas Ranch Wedding

When Dorothy first laid eyes on Adam, she instantly had a massive crush. At the time, Dorothy was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed freshman and Adam was the older, just-out-of-reach senior. Fast forward to a few years later, and the two ran into one another at a local bar. When Adam noticed Dorothy, he knew he had to introduce himself to her. Except, she already knew just who he was! A year later Dorothy invited him to a family Christmas party, and the rest was history.

Growing up just outside of Austin, the couple have a shared love for ranches – particularly Dorothy’s family Ranch, Rocking K. This was the site where Adam asked for Dorothy’s father’s blessing to marry her, where their engagement party was held, and now, their wedding venue as well!

We have spent countless hours at Rocking K, whether it’s fishing, playing on the four-wheelers, family gatherings, watching fireflies, or just walking through the pecan orchards chasing the sunset. It really is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen.

The couple envisioned a vibrant and colorful wedding that combined the two biggest parts of their personalities: their love of Texan culture, and their fun-loving, wild side! Pearl Events helped bring this vision to life in a truly unforgettable wedding that combined their ranch venue with the disco vibes of Studio 54.  Caroline’s Collective captured every loving moment between the couple, including some epic shots of them riding a mechanical bull together that you won’t want to miss!

Leather and Love

Black leather wedding invitations

With a wedding as bold as this one, it’s no surprise that we’re starting off so strong! Dorothy put her creative skills as a graphic designer to work by creating these AH-MAZING wedding invitations herself!

I drew the save the date and it held details like lyrics from our first dance, the Rocking K logo, our cows and bull, plus more. For the formal, we hand cut, punched, and sewed the leather envelopes together then stuffed each one with a beautifully texturized & foiled suite.

Bridal headband and cathedral length veil

Dorothy was decked out in a stunning, sparkling dress by Naeem Khan. She was her own disco ball on her wedding day! Oh – and did you notice her AMAZING bridal headband?!

Neiman Marcus has had this Naeem Khan dress since 2018, but I had the honor of being the very first purchaser. The dress originally comes tea-length, but we had it lengthened to the floor and added a three-foot train. It also has an optional petticoat! It truly felt like this dress was made specifically for me.

As the creative that she is, the bride had big plans when it came to color on her wedding day. Adam and Dorothy had a jaw-dropping palette of nine different colors! Some of these are incorporated here in her beautiful bouquet by Remi & Gold.

Life on the Ranch

It was a gorgeous day for a wedding in Texas! The aisle was lined with colorful decorative rugs and bright flowers, while ghost chairs were perfectly arranged on either side. Let’s get married!

P.S. Adam built this himself! How cool!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

D— Seeing Adam!!! Adam actually didn't let me see him in his tux before the wedding, so I had no clue what he was going to look like. I could hardly stand myself. I knew the setting like the back of my hand, but it felt like I was seeing both him and the ranch for the first time all over again. The bright green of the land and big blue Texas sky, the insanely beautiful flowers in our color palette climbing up trees framing him in his tux, it was perfect. It was like I was waiting in line for a roller coaster, I couldn't wait to get on and go.

A— Honestly, it was the same for me! It's no secret that Dorothy is a "creative" dresser and leading up to our wedding day I was racking my brain trying to fantasize about what she would look like. She definitely did not disappoint when she got out of the SUV and her 70's Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader boots hit the grass followed by her beautiful disco ball of a dress. Definitely got me a little teary-eyed seeing her walk down the aisle surrounded by all of the people we love the most.

Disco Honky Tonk

Ranch wedding cocktail bar

Let’s get this party started, Texas-style! Guests were offered the couple’s signature drink upon entry into the reception. The cocktail consisted of vodka, lime, elderflower, and soda. Yum!

cowboy hat wedding favors

Now, this was a true highlight of the evening. Who doesn’t love a good cowboy hat?! This station was so popular that hats flew off the shelves (seriously).

The biggest surprise was we ran out of cowboy hats! We couldn’t believe how popular they were. We asked everyone to dress in all black, semi-formal/black tie optional, so standing back and seeing a sea of white cowboy hats bobbing around was unique. Especially placed amongst the wild colors of the flowers, furniture, and disco balls. The cowboy hats were a cherry on top of an already insanely beautiful wedding.

When hosting cocktail hour, it’s a great idea to offer a variety of seating options for your guests! These high-top tables as well as the lounge area are a great addition to the wedding.

Honky tonk on wheels

Ever heard of a Honky Tonk? It’s two great things in one! First, it’s a Country music style focusing primarily on rhythm. The main instruments associated with Honky Tonk are piano (imagine the sounds of going to a fair in the 1920s) but more recently, the steel guitar and other Western instruments, like the fiddle.

A Honky Tonk is also a Country music bar! Trouble Hall is a Honky Tonk on wheels, AKA the perfect fit for this funky Western wedding.

Colorful wedding open seating

From the early stages of wedding planning, the couple knew that a traditional dinner arrangement wouldn’t be the right choice. Instead, they opted for a food-truck fueled affair, coupled with casual open seating for guests.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

D - Do what you want! Don't follow what you think you should or shouldn't do. It's a day meant for the two of you, so that's what it should be. A day that represents your relationship and love.

A - Take a second to step back and look around. You're going to be talking to people non-stop but make sure you take the time and find yourself a good vantage point to take everything in. In our case, it will be the only time all of our friends and families will have been together in the same place and I'm grateful I got the chance to take it all in for a short minute instead of just never-ending running around and talking.

And for the finale…a mechanical bull! It doesn’t get more Texan than that, now does it?!

Okay, but the mechanical bull wasn’t the grand finale. It was actually this! Dorothy and Adam ended the night holding one another while a beautiful firework display burst behind them. The perfect ending to a truly perfect wedding. Congratulations to the happy couple!
