Wedding Inspirations from Wedding Invitations: Winged Specimen

butterfly wedding invitation

Time for our second installment of wedding inspirations from wedding invitations (you can see the first post here). Today I am inspired by the Winged Specimen Wedding Invitations designed by Laura Hankins from our lovely sponsor Minted. I love this invitation suite! The butterfly specimens give it a scientific touch added with a bit of vintage flair from the typefaces and ribbons. The pretty chevron print on the back of each invite gives the suite a playful modern element. So, a touch of science, vintage + chevron! Love the combo and it inspired me to create this…

Vintage plates and chairs give the table an overall vintage feel. A test tube centerpiece flanked by flasks and science bottles on each end bring in the science element. The table number with the butterfly name adds to that science touch. For florals, I used icelandic poppies, ferns, air plants and scabiosa pods. A chevron fabric table runner brings all the elements together. And let’s not forget the pretty paper butterflies along the back wall made from vintage paper.

LOVE the test tube display for the middle of the table. Such a unique + fun way to display flowers. I stained the wooden stand to give it an older look.

I think the paper butterfly wall is such a sweet and easy-to-create touch. I cut out butterflies in 3 different sizes with vintage scrapbook paper and then taped them to the back wall. I think this would be a great idea for a ceremony backdrop or behind a dessert table. So whimsical + fun! Butterflies also represent change and a new beginning – what a perfect symbol for the start of your marriage!

I created some butterflies with origami (using this handy video to create them). I love the idea of incorporating them into your bouquet or putting them on sticks for younger wedding guests to wave at you as you walk down the aisle.

Hopefully this shows you that inspiration really can come from anywhere – and if you find an invite you love – that just might be a perfect design inspiration if you are stuck for an idea. :) Be sure to check out more invitations from Minted and see if there is one that inspires you.
