Happy Monday! This week I have some fun posts planned for you guys. In celebration of the Oscars on Sunday, I thought I would share some wedding inspirations + ideas from some of my favorite movies – including some that are nominated for Academy Awards this year. I think you can find so many great ideas from films – so why not bring some of those fun ideas into your wedding?!
To start the week off, I’m looking at one of the nominations for Best Picture this year – the movie Up. If you didn’t get a chance to see this movie, you really should. It is sweet and at parts sad, but has a really cute message. Quick synopsis – It’s about a couple that meet when they are children and both share a love of adventure and exploring. They later marry and promise to go visit Paradise Falls when they save enough money. Unfortunately, Ellie (the wife) dies and they don’t get to make the trip. Carl decides to try and make the trip himself by tying thousands of balloons to his house and floating away. And an adventure begins…

Remember, when finding inspiration from movies, you don’t need (or want to be) too literal. Pick a few elements you love and work with those. My favorite element from Up are of course all the colorful balloons Carl uses to float away. I see a colorful + happy wedding. Love, balloons, travel + adventure, and colorful birds.
What other movies would you like to see me find inspiration from this week (they don’t have to be from this year)?
How about Twilight and Alice in Wonderland?
So fun! love that first pick with the house and all the balloons. I would love to see inspirations from The Notebook. LOVE that movie.
This is adorable- what a great series idea for the Oscars! :)
Yes Twilight for sure, even though it's not nominated. For nominated movies, The Blind Side & Julie & Julia!
Aww, I love this. Perhaps because I just love the movie and it makes me cry when Ellie dies. I know crying at a cartoon, but it's just so real! I love that picture in the upper left with the balloons and house.
Other fun movies that I'd like to see wedding inspiration boards for? From the Oscar nominee list: Avatar, Nine and Harry Potter
love loved Up so this is such a great inspiration board!
Love your movie inspiration idea! I just did a board for Marie Antionette a couple of weeks ago :-) A julia julia bridal shower would be really cute!
oh! And I meant to say great job picking the cupcake image– I love how the berries slightly resemble a bundle of balloons– they are perfect!
Thank you SO much for this! I've always wondered why I haven't been able to think of good ideas that "fit" me for my wedding. (I'm not engaged, just like to think about it!) This is PERFECT. I'm so excited now. haha
Thank is adorable. I love the cupcakes and the flowergirl dresses. Great that you don't have to commit to a color also!
what a colorful and cheerful arrangement!
UP is so cute : )
Also, do you have any idea where that house is located? :-)
How about Sherlock Holmes? Or Princess and the Frog?
This is so, so wonderful…I can't wait to see more wedding movie inspirations this week! I loved Up, and I love the idea of choosing something happy, fun, and cheery as a wedding theme–that's something I'll definitely do, as an eternal, cheerful optimist. I would love to see a Dr. Seuss wedding board on here! There's plenty of movies that fit into that category, I especially like the original cartoon ones (since some of the live-action ones, like Cat in the Hat, were really bad). But a Dr. Seuss wedding board would be wonderful to see! I also love the idea of having a The Princess and the Frog board, and a Harry Potter board! :D
Oh, and to everyone who said Twilight, I believe she had a Twilight-related post earlier? Around when New Moon came out.
I'm in agreement with the Dr. Seuss post. My boyf wants to use a Dr. Seuss book for the guests to sign as they come in.
Would love ideas on how to expand that into the full wedding
Kat is right! I did create a post on how I imagined the Twilight Wedding would be. You can check it out by clicking here
Love all your ideas so far!
I love this board! Up was such a wonderful movie, and that picture with the balloons on the house is amazing; a little touch that would make a big impact.
I would love to see an Alice in Wonderland inspiration board. Something that's not the typical black, white, and red color scheme with the decks of cards everywhere. I like your idea of not being too literal.
The Princess and the Frog. Or something more simple and ethereal like Pride and Prejudice. Nancy Drew could be fun!
That is too cute!!! I adore that movie!
Let's see Breakfast At Tiffany's! That would be a good one! Love Audrey.
Moulin Rouge!! "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return" paired with over-the-top decor…you could have a lot of fun with that. Even throw in some Romeo and Juliet and call it a Baz Luhrmann-inspired set. A little hectic, but so much fun.
Marie Antoinette! Absolutely. Lots of macarons, powders blues and pinks, brocade and champagne!

I want to see a board based on "Nine". The 1960's Italian seaside theme would make for an awesome wedding board with lots of delicious Italian antipasto dishes, peach Bellinis, and soft, sea inspired colors!
If you've ever read Dr. Seuss' "Oh, The Places You Will Go" – perfect idea for a wedding. I've always thought this book is such a great gift. It would be fun to watch it come to life as a wedding…
Some great ideas! Yes, I would also love to see the Baz Luhrmann version of Romeo & Juliet – LOVE that movie. Can't wait to see what else you pick!
Somebody needs to do a wedding inspired by the amazingly beautiful Czech film "Valerie and her week of wonder"!
First off, I LOVE this movie inspired idea!! Second, my boyfriend and I both LOVE baseball, so I would love to see a wedding inspired by "The Sandlot" (it's also my fav movie! such a classic, feel good, being a kid again kind of movie :)
Love you did an "up and up in the air" inspiration board!
I heart the oscars and can't wait for the red carpet on sunday!
A fun movie to do would be and I'm just going to put it out there Sex and the city! I know it might have been done but the balloons reminded me of that and who doesn't love a good martini!
One of my favorite movies is Finding Neverland.. any ideas from that movie? Btw…I'm new to your blog, but I LOVE it. it always make me smile!
oh my gosh you have no idea how happy this makes me ! the birds!!! omg!!! you are too good!
Oh this is such a cute idea! I have such a soft spot for this movie. The balloon pictures definitely add just the right touch. :)
I love anything to do with Peter Pan and my fiance and I actually met in a class where we were paired up to write a paper on translating some of the themes from the book into modern scenarios. I would love to see a board based on Finding Neverland or Peter Pan. I've been trying to figure out how to incorporate some of the elements into our wedding. Like the acorn and the thimble…
ACK! I love love love this idea!!
Cute as heck!
My absolute favorite movie inspired board would be from Pride & Prejudice (the 2005 Keira Knightley version). Everything about that film is perfect for a wedding; the simplicity, family, elegance…it's all there.
Such a fun idea! I agree about the "Julie & Julia" themed wedding. Think of all the food! I'm wondering what you would do with a "Steel Magnolias" blush and bashful wedding. That's always been such a laughable combination to me because of the movie but I feel like you could take pink and pink to a fun, tasteful and chic level. "Avatar" would be interesting to me as well, mainly because I'm hoping you would choose blue as the main thing you take from the movie.
What a gorgeous inspirationboard.
I would love to see my favourite movie: th Godfather. Wouldn't that be a lovely vintage inspirationboard?
And another favorite: Big Fish, I guess that would be more of a fantasy, over-the-top, carnavalesc feel.

What about a Far and Away or Australia inspired wedding?
Super fun! I love the passport idea for destination weddings and the Mr. and Mrs. signs! Perfect for thank you notes!
AMELIE!!!!!!!!!
Finding Neverland! Something with a kite maybe? Amelie would be wonderful too!
Amelie (whimsical, rich reds and greens, photos), Edward Scissorhands (icy blue, fantasy, black accents), Lost in Translation (Japanese Pop; Serene Cherry Blossoms; Modern and sleek..yet colorful).
omggggg i'm so doing that balloon thing. i'm in love.
Can you post the link for just the building with the balloons? Thanks.
