describe your artistic style:
In my final presentation of images from a wedding, I include a classic set of timeless images mixed in with the real moments and lots of details. Clients frequently comment that they were drawn to my candid images when they found my work. I aspire to give my couples images that really capture their love and personalities rather than a pose; I prefer that a bride and groom focus on each other instead of the camera for most of the day. Though I shoot 100% digital, I like to edit with some of the tones and grain characteristic of film, which adds richness to the photographs without compromising the timelessness of an image.
what inspires you?
Love really is the most inspiring to me. My favorite images are almost always the bride and groom interacting with each other in a completely real moment, the way they always do and always will for years to come; him pushing her hair behind her ear or the way she grabs his arm when they walk back down the aisle together as husband and wife.
I also love the way morning light glows through the trees, all things Parisian, vintage inspired details and locations, Southern traditions and food, letterpressed papers, meaningful or personalized details, pops of color, and casual elegance (I believe that such a thing exists!). I want to capture all of that beauty and keep it for myself.
what do you love about weddings?
In 2009 I planned my own wedding to my darling husband and loved making the day so very us. While Garrett might not have had an opinion on every aspect of the day I loved that he contributed to a lot of major decisions (our colors, navy and golden yellow; the playlist which had to include SHOUT and our first dance song: Alabama Waltz by Hank Williams; the art nouveau inspired invitations; and the decision to keep our ceremony small and intimate.
Now that I'm married I love being a part of these other couples' love stories and I adore the weddings where the focus is the marriage instead of a wedding. I have so many favorites. The moment the bride puts on her veil (no fail, this will make you really feel like a bride!), Sweet Home Alabama and Wagon Wheel at local weddings, tearful first looks, a bridesmaid's reaction to seeing her best friend marry the perfect guy, a grandmother helping the bride put on her set of pearls for her something borrowed, and personally saying goodbye to the couple at the end of the night. I get to be a part of the happiest day in so many peoples' lives and that is so amazing!
what's your travel policy?
I love to travel! While a majority of the weddings I've photographed have taken place in Alabama I've photographed weddings in North Carolina, Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, South Carolina, and California so far and always love the chance to discover a new place. I would absolutely die to photograph a wedding in France or Italy, Natchez Mississippi (where I met my husband!), a wedding march in New Orleans, and any other magical place you'd like to take me!
