Floral in the North

prices from: Molly Oliver Flowers is a sustainable floral design business founded by Brooklyn-based farmer Molly Culver of the Youth Farm. At MOF, we believe in creating beautiful art with flowers, with as little expense to the ecosystem as possible. Molly joined the NYC urban farming and food justice movement in 2005 to help increase access to fresh produce in underserved communities. She has farmed vegetables and flowers for 10 years, and received a Certificate in Ecological Horticulture at the UC-Santa Cruz Farm and Garden in 2008, the country’s most prestigious training program in organic farming. Molly also directs adult farm training and manages flower production at The Youth Farm, a 1-acre educational farm, in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. MOF floral arrangements always feature locally-grown flowers sourced from within 200 miles of New York City, sourced from NYC urban farms as well as regional farms. Because of a deep commitment to supporting the earth and small farmers practicing sustainable agriculture since its founding, MOF has developed a strong network of local farmers that grow a great diversity of beautiful flowers, cut fresh and delivered at peak quality. Proceeds from flowers purchased from our partner educational farms - The Youth Farm, East New York Farms!, and Queens County Farm - support sustainable agriculture educational programs for youth and adults around the city, as well as help to grow healthier Brooklyn soil: all un-claimed flowers go to compost production at The Youth Farm and the Brooklyn Grange. While every couple is different, the average costs for wedding flowers for MOF clients range from $4000 to $8000; for a full service wedding, our minimum is $4000. It all depends on how lush of a look is desired and how large your wedding will be. We like to share Martha Stewart Wedding's recommendation to reserve 8-10% of your overall wedding budget for flowers. We of course understand every couple has different priorities and that weddings are very expensive; we share this information up front to help couples have a general expectation from the start of the process. We offer full-service floral design for events and weddings large and small. We marry our strong organization and communication skills with fierce commitment to locally-sourced flowers, and an aesthetic bent towards the wild and whimsical. Whatever your vision, we’re open to exploring and creating. We also offer DIY wedding support: if you want to get hands-on and design your own, we’ll provide fresh, seasonal flowers a day before to your chosen design team.
describe your artistic style: While at MOF we always work with fresh, seasonal stems, we’re flexible on aesthetics. Working with us, you will get unfussy, natural, beautiful arrangements that reflect your style and suit your needs while benefiting our small farmers, our local economy, and the earth. Inspired by the whimsy and singularity of the plant world, the oddity of a stray branch, a runaway tendril, a frosted leaf or a ripening pear... our floral designs will have you reveling in the plurality of beauty inherent in nature.
what inspires you? Soil inspires, randomness inspires, love inspires, the future inspires, community inspires. We're passionate about connecting our clients with local flowers, to educate others on what's in season, and cultivating the most beautiful and unique art with those flowers.
what do you love about weddings? Every time I work a wedding, I am filled with the energy of the love in the room, surrounding my clients and between my clients. It's such an honor to take part in one of the most special and memorable days in a person's life, and nothing makes me happier than bringing my clients' visions to life with the help of locally-grown flowers.
what's your travel policy? Molly Oliver Flowers is happy to travel the world over to meet other local farmers and source from them! Extra fees may apply. Please inquire as early in advance as possible if you are seeking our services from abroad.
