Warehouse Bridal Shower

The Bridal Shower! Such a fun event where you get to hang with your favorite gal pals and soak in time with your besties, family + friends. Jess is a creative assistant at Momental Designs and Kristy (the head designer behind Momental Designs) designed a perfect bridal shower for Jess. Jess’s foodie tendencies and artistic spirit inspired this “gothic-dingy-slightly spanish-inspired eclectic mess of pretty” wedding shower – as quoted by Kristy. :)

The Maggpie Vintage warehouse set the scene for a leisurely afternoon. 18 guests gathered on a warm day in August huddled amongst overflowing shelves of vintage treasures, hand crafted Maggpie original furniture and old upholstery. Music blasted in the warehouse while the ladies sipped wine, flipped through old books, told stories and nibbled on desserts.

From Kristy of Momental Designs: The stationery story began with invitations where each guest was given a small wooden boxed filled with a floral pattern scroll and all tied up with peach lace and a neon tipped note that read “let’s eat and drink for she is getting married.” A favorite detail were the jade green thread buckles, circa 1940 ish. I gratefully collected just enough to adorn each invite. A dimmed version of the pattern bordered each menu and courses were denoted on each by a brushstroke of taupe shimmer ink. Favors were DIY mini-notebooks featuring splashy and bold blooms. Each place-setting featured a notebook and Jess’s favorite writing tool, the iconic “Le Pen.”

I painted a 12 ft by 12 in wide watercolor runner in murky shades of teal, blue and black to be set atop the bench buffet table. While the paper was heavy and wet with inks I sprinkled salt atop the surface. When all was dry, light sunbursts appeared where the salt soaked up the ink. Love this simple technique I learned back in 4th grade!! The food against the hand painted runner truly became the focal point.

The bride is an amazing cook and as such truly appreciates amazing flavors. The menu was both innovative + beautiful. Pat from Grico’s Restaurant created artful compositions with food that became the table’s centerpiece. Color and presentation were just as important as taste.

Jasmine of the The Couture Cakery created a petite cake designed with ruffly texture and rustic color. The cake was set amongst other sweets styled atop lace spools and colorful cigar boxes.
