A Colorful Wedding at the New Children’s Museum in San Diego

When we came across this urban, cool, and completely colorful wedding on Instagram, we knew we had to contact the photographer right away! We had so many questions — What?! How? Where?! Jenika of Gantes.Co was thrilled to share all the details about the vibrant ceremony that took place on Cinco de Mayo. After reserving the date of May the 5th at the New Children’s Museum in San Diego, the bride and groom — Jess + Evan — knew they had to pay tribute to the day with some colorful details!

Let’s take a look at how it all came together, with the help of Luna Wild Design!

Jess rocked crushed velvet heels for the big day… We could definitely see ourselves wearing these bad boys for so many different events!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

The first look — initially, we weren't going to do it. We thought we wanted to go the traditional route and have a first glance as I walked down the aisle, but after lots of thought and great feedback from friends, we decided to include that intimate moment (which ended up being our favorite moment). Everything moves so fast that if you don't plan for special intimate moments between the two of you, the day will slip right by.

Jess shares Our favorite moment during the wedding planning, was designing our rings. A good friend of mine,  Jen, is a jewelry designer in LA and I knew before getting engaged that I wanted her to design my ring. It was so unexpected, meaning we didn’t give it too much thought, but after spending an evening with her to break bread, share our relationship with her, and provide meaningful details that would influence the way she designed our rings, it was such a beautiful reminder about why we were doing all of this. It allowed us to take a moment among the craziness of wedding planning and celebrate one another.

Rue de Seine Wedding Dress

Um, that interior. Right?!? The New Children’s Museum in San Diego has got it going on.

The bridesmaids all wore a colorful collection of dresses, which made for quite the epic photo!

colorful backdrop

One of our favorite pieces was the ceremony backdrop that was designed and built by a close friend of ours, Corrie in Color. She made the backdrop with colored tissue paper (bright turquoise blue, and variety of vibrant shades of pink) and it had layers of texture that reminded us of a piñata – it was incredible.

Evan, the groom, is also a photographer and arranged to “steal” one of our cameras during the ceremony to take the first photo of his new wife. How cute is that?!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

EVERYONE tells you how fast the day goes by and then it happens and you're like, "Holy cow, the day went by so fast" - haha! The best advice I can give is to make sure you schedule a few special moments with just the two of you (and not just on the wedding day, but the month and even week leading up to everything). Before everyone headed into town, we scheduled a date night the week of our wedding where each of us had to plan something that we knew the other would love. It really set the tone for the week and allowed us to just breathe and be with each other.
