Texas Barr Mansion Wedding: Erica + Evan

lone star wedding

Erica + Evan live in Manhattan, but Erica is originally from Texas so when it came time for their wedding, they knew that they wanted to celebrate in Texas – and show all their New York friends how cool Texas really is! :) They love the vibes of the Hotel Saint Cecilia and Barr Mansion, so they asked their wedding party to stay at the hotel over the weekend and celebrated their wedding at Barr Mansion.

I love their quilt project that Erica shared with me! From Erica, When we sent out our “save the dates”, we asked all the invitees to return a piece of fabric that best represented their flare. We got everything from basketball jerseys (Evan used to play and still loves basketball) to vintage handkerchiefs (thanks, Mom) to finger paintings on canvas fabric. Molly came to our rescue and created a modern quilt that we love. We hung it as the backdrop to our photo booth, and guests had fun posing in front of their flare.

What a fun idea! Thanks so much to Nichols Photographers for the gorgeous photos and congrats to Erica + Evan!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

There are so many! Our first look. Our niece Sami as the rockstar flower child. My aunt gifting me a bracelet of my grandma’s to wear. Our seven parents reading the seven blessings during the ceremony. Lindsay brought the house down with her amazing voice (twice!). Stage diving. Delicious Momofuku cake – layered with Funfetti Birthday flavor for Evan’s birthday. And, thanks to Barr Mansion, ending the night off right with s’mores and pizza!

Erica used leftover fabric from her grandfather’s shirt to create five heart-shaped lapel pins that the men in her life (dad, brothers and Evan) were gifted and wore on the inside of their suit jackets, close to their hearts. She had an extra one made to attach to the ribbon around her bouquet. Super sweet!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

1) As soon as wedding planning starts, get a NEW email address. I’m convinced streamlining all those emails from venues and vendors saved me a few headaches. 2) Don’t be afraid (or too controlling) to ask for help. Delegating was the most intimidating but once those “to do” lists started piling up, I was grateful for the help. 3) BUT help can also mean second, third and fourth opinions, so be open to the feedback but don’t forget what’s important to you and your partner. I heard this last piece of advice a lot but didn’t really get it until a few weeks before the wedding, when planning was in full force. Drama and details came close to distracting us from us – but as soon as the weekend started, we just focused on each other and having fun.
