Brooklyn Terrarium Wedding: Kim + Matt

Kim + Matt met in Brooklyn – Matt was managing a café + Kim came in for soup. They had some funny + flirty flatware dilemma and the rest is history. :) So, there was no question that their wedding would take place in Brooklyn. They had so many personal details which I just love and Kim is wearing one of my favorite BHLDN dresses. She looks so gorgeous! Congrats to Kim + Matt and thanks so much to Made U Look Photography for the stunning photos!

From Kim, “Matt had given me a DNA trace kit for Christmas that traced my DNA on my mothers side back to West Africa (he’s a geneticist). He then sourced a champagne colored conflict free diamond from West Africa and presented that along with silver ore from Idaho (where he grew up) in a little box when he proposed. He then found a jeweler in Brooklyn who took those elements and made the engagement ring. The idea was to have a symbol that linked our beginnings to our present and into our future. He also presented what he called a ‘ghost ring’ in the engagement box, which was a champagne colored acrylic representation of a classic Tiffany set diamond ring from the artist by:AMT. He asked me to wear that as a placeholder for the ring to come.” Wow! I just love that. Those awesome fingerprint rings below are by Fabuluster.

Love that they did their first look and portraits in a café since that is where they met – so cute!

key escort cards

They used antique keys for the seating placement, which they fell in love with after walking over the Pont des Art bridge which is covered in locks engraved with sets of initials while vacationing in Paris – which Jason + I stopped by yesterday and left a lock with our names also! :) The locks are meant to symbolize eternal love. Kim + Matt fashioned their own homage to this tradition by creating the love keys to symbolize the keys to their hearts.

Ok, I just LOVE this idea. Their reception was filled with terrariums on the tables, which guests made and participated in a Terrarium Challenge. If guests wanted they brought their own terrarium they made especially for the wedding and then everyone voted and awards were given by Kim + Matt and they also had a People’s choice. Such a great idea to get friends + family involved – and it worked out great since they then used all these for their centerpieces!

Food was served from a traditional Brooklyn style food truck – Mexicue. :) And instead of toasts, the couple had moth-style stories told by their dear friends + family. Super fun!

Such a beautiful + personal wedding! Congrats to Kim + Matt! And if you are loving their terrariums, stay tuned for our fun terrarium DIY we will be sharing later today!

A Colorful Handmade Wedding: Cerissa + Chad

I just love happy and fun weddings and this one photographed by Brandon Kidd is just the sweetest! So perfect for a Monday, right?! Cerissa + Chad both love the golden age of California and the beach – so what else to do but add a seaside amusement feel to their California wedding. :) They also wanted to incorporate burlap + flowers which adds a raw fresh feel to the wedding – just like their love for each other. They found inspiration here on GWS and at Disney’s California Adventure’s Paradise Pier, which is made to look like an old seaside amusement park. Any idea or concept that they loved, they took and made their own. Such a beautiful + fun day you two! Congrats!!

From Chad, “If this wedding was going to represent Cerissa and I, it had to have the feeling of fun, love, detail, and there had to be something different to see at every corner. We wanted people to feel entertained from the very beginning. Thats why we had live entertainment at every location, a crossword puzzle, postcard, and build a burger card at the table, and photo booth at the reception. We never wanted a dull moment! We continued that feel with pictures of us all over, a video of our love story, and our grand entrance dance.”

dessert table

Our favorite detail was the sweets table. It was awesome, it had so much to offer and really represented us. It had our favorite cookies, pies, and cupcakes. Not to mention a little cake that was made of fresh strawberries and whipped cream. And we loved our personalized cake topper.

Our most memorable moment had to of been our grand entrance dance! It was a blast! Our bridal party nailed the routine we made them learn.. I will never forget sharing that moment with our close friends in front of our friends and family.

Any advice for those planning now? Give yourself plenty of time, and do as many creative ideas as you can. Do a project every weekend. Its also fun to do craft projects together. I found it fun to push the envelope, push our vendors to try and do new things, don’t let any one tell you no, and dont be afraid to ask. Make sure you are very organized before the wedding, so every detail is executed perfectly and you dont have anything to worry about the day of. And lastly do everything you want to do, try and make it happen, make it all about it you, and your love together. Its your day, and remember you only get one!

Such a gorgeous + fun couple!! Congrats to Cerissa + Chad!!

A Wedding at Design Within Reach: Renee + Brett

Renee + Brett wanted an untraditional reception venue. They love mid-century modern design and after walking into the store Design Within Reach one day, they knew they found the perfect location! Design Within Reach even allowed them to use all of their fabulous furniture + decor which gave their reception a lounge-like, yet also a home, comfortable feel. This just goes to show you that you really can think out-of-the-box for your venue! It never hurts to ask – even if the location isn’t a typical wedding venue. Sometimes the most unexpected places make the best + most memorable locations. Thanks so much to Kym Ventola for the lovely photos + big congrats to Renee + Brett!

Most memorable moment of your wedding day? We have two most memorable moments, the first being our first look. It was really great to take a deep breath and have some time together before all of the festivities broke loose, just the two of us. Next, there was a time during our reception where we took a step back and just took it all in, the dancing, the music, the laughter, and all of our friends and family. Our day was so full of love, and we have our wonderful friends and family to thank for that.

Any advice for those planning now? Don’t forget to have fun and don’t overwhelm yourself! When it felt like we needed a break, we would schedule a weekend off – no wedding planning or wedding events for a weekend. Remember that you’re having a wedding to marry the love of your life, so don’t get too stressed out planning the wedding because what’s most important and what you’ll have when the day is all over is the love and the marriage. Trust that everything will come together and fall into place. Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box – we are lucky that nowadays, anything goes when it comes to weddings. Work with vendors that you connect with personally and professionally and hire a wedding planner or day-of coordinator – this will help make the wedding planning and the wedding day a smooth and enjoyable process.
