Stylish Brooklyn Winery Wedding: Katy + Lee

Brooklyn Winery Wedding

What could be better than a relaxed + personal wedding celebration at one of the couple’s favorite local neighborhood spots? Currently, we’re having trouble trying to think of anything, and Katy + Lee’s stylish, garden-inspired nuptials at Brooklyn Winery in Brooklyn, New York is about to show you why! Katy is a talented fashion designer in NYC, and with her keen eye for style + aesthetics, she made sure to incorporate both her and Lee’s personality throughout all facets of their wedding. That meant adding in meaningful details – like seating cards with photos of their dogs, table names named after special places they love, and incorporating their fave colors (grey, copper + rose gold) – was a definite must. Below, Katy tells us more about their day, vision + venue, then it’s on to the gorgeous photos by The Hons Photography!

Both of us are very busy people, Lee is a musician and I’m a designer and we both travel constantly. We were engaged in October and planned on marrying that upcoming May so we had to make decisions fast. Brooklyn Winery was one of our neighborhood spots and once we realized they host weddings we knew we wanted to be married there. (also we love wine and it happens to be 2 blocks from our apartment). Our main priority was to make our guests feel like they were walking into a relaxed calming rustic garden in the middle of Brooklyn. Originally we were going to do all the flowers ourself but quickly realized what an undertaking that was. Word of advice.. Learn to let go. I wanted a ton of flowers, candles and twinkle lights everywhere. We scoured every vintage and thrift store in the greater New York area to find the votive holders as well as all of the vases. And we worked with a brilliant florist –George + Steven from Eltingville Florist – who completely understood my vision.

Sarah Seven Dress

You know we’re loving Katy’s two piece Sarah Seven dress! It’s one of our very favorites.

For her bouquet + florals, Katy wanted lush greens with pops of lavender and white and this beauty was executed perfectly with that in mind!

Both of Katy + Lee’s fathers were tradesmen and, as a nod to that, Katy’s dad made the beautiful copper pipe Chuppah for them to stand under for their ceremony.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Saying our vows was one of the most surreal moments for us and the brief moment we had alone right after just to soak it all in. My father telling me I looked beautiful and us both fighting back tears, the massive dance party that ensued after. (Everyone but my husband loves to dance but he sucked it up and danced to make me happy). All of the speeches. Both my brothers, Lee's brother and Lee all made beautiful and touching speeches. Lee recited a poem from a children's book about a lonely dinosaur and how he's found his dinosaur. (I'm obsessed with animals and dinosaurs) It was amazing.

My mom is a saint for putting up with all of my crazy ideas. I wanted our place card holders to be fun so it was a black and white photo of our fur babies held by a spray painted plastic animal. We bought them at a dollar store and my mom spray painted and shellacked each one. The table names were all named after special places that we love, il bastardo the restaurant we met in, otley and Yorkshire where my husband is from and Staten Island and Brooklyn where I’m from.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Enjoy every moment of it!! It's all in the details so the more personal the better and finally my biggest lesson was to let go. In the end it was the most beautiful day of our lives and we were just so grateful to have the people we love the most in this world be there to support us and celebrate. That's all that really matters anyways.
