Southern Bayou Inspired Wedding: Katie + Jeremy – Part One

LA wedding

Today’s gorgeous wedding is a pretty special one – it’s the wedding of our lovely editorial assistant here at GWS, Katie! Katie has worked here with us at GWS for almost two years now and has been such an asset to us. Katie is also a pretty talented photographer and I’m excited to share her wedding to her love Jeremy today! Jason and I were lucky enough to attend Katie’s wedding last fall and with the talent she hired including Studio Castillero capturing the day, Carly Rae Weddings for coordination and Primary Petals creating the gorgeous florals at the super rad Marvimon, it was a perfect wedding for these two lovebirds! I’ll let Katie talk more about her day :)

Jeremy and I had been together almost 7 years before we got engaged. Both being creative people (Me a photographer/GWS assistant! and Jeremy a musician), we wanted something to reflect the both of us. I was a bit overwhelmed at first on where to start planning. Working at Green Wedding Shoes I’m constantly seeing amazing weddings and inspiration. So the inspiration boards I would put together were sort of a mess at first. Eventually I realized that I was the one planning and choosing – and not at all asking Jeremy; no wonder I was so confused! It all made total sense after Jeremy suggested something that I knew was perfect for us: we were going to throw the most southern, swampy, bayou inspired wedding! We chose a few initial colors to get us going: southern peach, mint, beige, and espresso brown. And I knew we had to have tumbleweeds and Spanish moss anyplace we could. We each picked important things to invest into for the wedding: A photographer that got our style, a venue that had the right vibe, and a blues band to bring it all together!

One of my favorite elements we had done for the wedding were these custom portraits done by Ernie at Draw Your Face Off. Our paper goods designer, Alex, got to use them in a lot of our items as well. It was a fun collaboration!

We had Alex design for us a fun ceremony program that introduced our wedding party to our family and friends. We loosely based it off of the “two truths and a lie” game. Turns out they were all true – except for bridesmaids Nikki’s last fact: “Once shot a pig in the face” (she’s a Texan). We both still laugh at that one.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

Katie: My favorite memory is walking down the aisle. I just remember holding my dad's arm, him telling me how beautiful I looked - and to slow down so everyone could see me. What a dad! I was so overwhelmed at seeing everyone's faces and didn't relax until I saw Jeremy's face. Also a close-second is my sister's slideshow she put together for her speech. It was sweet and I balled my eyes out!

Jeremy: Coming back into the reception after photos, knowing everyone we loved was there, and that we had time to hang out with them all. Also, how cool everything had turned out.
