South African Anniversary Session with a Zebra: Heather + Cody

To celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, Heather + Cody planned a trip from the US to South Africa and, in the midst of their planning, decided to commemorate the occasion with a photo shoot with Adene Photography. Adene shares, They wanted something classic, romantic and timeless, with an African touch. So we searched all over and finally found a tame zebra to incorporate in the shoot! He is now 12 years old and was hand raised by his ‘human adoptive dad’ since he was 4 days old, after his mom passed away. He absolutely loves human contact, he actually thrives on it!

Anli Wahl Flowers & Event Styling also infused the scenic setting with rich, luxurious pink + burgundy florals – including blushing brides + king proteas – both indigenous to South Africa.

Heather wore a custom-made nude + black Janita Toerien dress topped with a gorgeous floral belt.

Heather shares a bit more about their magical anniversary trip, We flew into Johannesburg and spent 4 nights in Kruger. From the very first drive from the airport to the lodge, we saw a giraffe cross right across the road and I just remember thinking to myself, this is incredible! Each morning and afternoon drive, we searched for various animals. We saw so many and so close. We never dreamed that we would see so many or so close. We packed our luggage plum full of binoculars thinking we would need them and not once had too. Each day, I secretly wanted to find the zebra knowing that we would have the opportunity to photograph with one. We did see a few at a distance which just excited me more and more knowing that we would be heading on to Cape Town days later. I never did tell Cody of the zebra, Columbia, because I wanted to surprise him. Few men are excited about photos but I knew that this would help and certainly make for a lifetime of memories.
