Romantic Australian Mill Wedding: Anna + Murray

Anna Campbell Wedding

Today’s wedding is pretty special to us, because as huge fans of Anna Campbell’s stunning wedding dresses, we are so honored to get to share her beautiful wedding today on GWS!! Anna + Murray’s gorgeous day was originally published in issue 12 of Hello May; not surprising at all since the event design by Oh Perfect Day + the photos by Brown Paper Parcel are definitely swoon-worthy! But let’s not beat around the bush. We’re sure you have the same question we do: what does a wedding dress designer wear to her own wedding?! Well, Anna decided to wear FOUR of her own designs + we have photos and details of each throughout the post! But before we go, let’s hear a few words from Anna + Murray about their inspiration for the day:

From the very start we knew that we didn’t want to be restricted to the limitations of a standard wedding venue, as we wanted to set our own time-lines, have the food we loved, and design our own bar menu. We made each decision with selfishly just ourselves in mind, based on what we loved, not what we though would cater to, or play it safe for all guests. We chose historic Andersons Mill, as it certainly is not a wedding venue, and was in the town that I had grown up in, so not only was it beautiful, it was special to us, and provided the most rustic, incredible blank canvas for us to bring in everything and design the wedding we wanted!

My first dress was worn to our first look, which was at Lavendula, a beautiful Swiss Lavender farm, with long grass, old gum trees, and lavender fields. I wanted a dress that flowed beautifully across the fields. That I could move freely in and relax, but sparkly and special enough to be the first dress that Murray saw me in.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

This has to be walking down the aisle! This is the moment that plays over and over in your head from when you get engaged to when it happens, and it was more special and overwhelming than I could have ever imagined! Even though we had a first look, having all of my girls and mum around me while I put on my incredible beaded dress, putting the veil over my face, and having Dad by my side, the whole thing was an absolute whirlwind! Watching my six bridesmaids walk up the aisle before me, with each one leaving I got more and more excited, when I walked in, I remember it just being a little fuzzy for a few moments, before I could even focus on Murray!

I knew that I wanted to walk down the aisle in something truly incredible and sparkly, but I also knew that I would only need to wear it for an hour or so, I created my ceremony dress with thousands upon thousands of beads. It was so incredibly heavy, but I loved how much it sparkled under the vintage lights of the barn we were married in. I felt so incredible wearing, it, but I was also so excited to change into something lighter!

We are so in love with the rustic, romantic feel to Anna + Murray’s reception. Such gorgeous lighting + florals.

My third dress was really fitted, and intricately beaded with gorgeous off the shoulder sleeves, and a mermaid shape that created the most incredible silhouette. I wore this dress at the beginning of the reception, and to our sunset photos. It was the dress that I was most nervous to wear, as it was so fitted, but it was definitely mine and Murray’s favourite!

The final dress that I wore was designed purely to let my hair down and dance! It was very simple, with soft lace, and the main detailing being a stunning belt detail around the waist line. It was so much lighter than all of the other dresses, and so fun to move in!

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

It is all worth it! As anxious, and stressful as it may feel on the lead-up, make selfish decisions that will pay-off for you and your groom on the day. This includes everything from the guest list, to the food and alcohol. Choose incredible suppliers that you trust, and adore working with creatively. This especially goes for your photographer and videographer. It all happens so quickly, and your photos and video are what will keep those memories alive forever.
