Retro 1950’s Wedding with Comic Book Graphics: Katie + Mark

Vintage bride and groom at LACMA

Katie + Mark’s wedding is so super fun! Their reception was held at a pretty unique spot – the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. I just love the mix of classic cars, comic book graphic details + diner food (yep, milkshakes, burgers + grilled cheese!) Katie has an amazing sense of style and pulled together so many great details for their day. To complete all the details, they had lots of late night arts + craft get togethers with their family + friends. I’m in love with the cute illustrations Mark drew for their invitations + programs – wait until you see them!  One of my other favorite details is their Perez (their last name) Pez dispense escort cards – how fun! Their wedding is a true reflection of them – fun, clever, gorgeous + artistic. Thanks so much to Heather Kincaid for the photos and congrats to Katie + Mark!

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

From Mark: As I was standing at the altar waiting for Katie to enter, the doors to St. Dominic’s opened, the sunshine burst through, and I distinctly remember Katie’s silhouette walking down the aisle like an angel stepping through the light. I also made sure to take a step back during the ceremony and the reception, and just take in the sight of all our family and friends that came to celebrate with us. Just to see everyone we knew and loved gathered together for us on our wedding day was amazing.

From Katie: The whole day was great! So many wonderful memories, and moments that I will never forget, but the day can just fly on by, and after it’s all over seem like a big blur. I remember my dad’s advice prior to the wedding, “Just make sure to pause and capture a single moment, because that will be what you remember throughout life”. That “moment” for me was after the ceremony, when Mark and I got into my uncle’s Studebaker, and we were whisked off to the reception. The drive to the Petersen Automotive Museum was about 35 minutes. During those 35 minutes, I got to be alone with my husband, and laugh, and smile, and talk about the ceremony, and gasp that we were finally husband and wife! There were so many wonderful things that happened during the day, but that is the one “moment” I think of first when I look back on it all.

Our Advice To Those Planning Now

Be original! Use a theme or style your wedding so that it is personal to you. Spending tons of money isn’t the only way to make your wedding stand out. There’s nothing wrong with a cookie-cutter wedding, but when you infuse personal touches, you let your guests know a little bit more about who you are as a couple. And in doing so, you’ve created a day that not only stands out as unique and special, but it will be something that you’ll both be proud of. Planning a wedding can be stressful, and at times a little overwhelming. For Mark and I, whenever we felt that way, we looked at our handmade invitations, and smiled. They reminded us that all the hard-work put into the wedding was 100% worth it!

It helps to have a list of questions ready when visiting vendors. That way you don’t forget. And it’s okay to ask a lot of questions, it’s your money, your time, and most importantly, it’s your special day. Besides, asking questions can sometimes help you save money. We did and came in under our original budget =)

Congrats to Katie + Mark!
