Copper was the initial inspiration behind today’s stunning styled editorial, designed by Roey Mizrahi Events + photographed by Christina Zen. But knowing that there had to be purpose to the shoot’s direction beyond a love of this metallic hue, Roey decided to bring the spirit of the ancient periods in Egypt and Mesopotamia into the design. She says, I thought of pyramids, scarabs, hieroglyphics, the Eye of Ra, and after a while, began generating the framework for this shoot, ultimately landing on the concept of a Modern Day Cleopatra. Blending influences from all those elements resulted in Bohemian meets glamour. Edgy meets Ethereal. Exotic meets Romance. The exaggerated bold eyeliner, pairing two separate headpieces normally worn individually of one another as a statement pair, and the embellished necklines of the amazing Anna Campbell Bridal Gowns in replace of bib necklaces, were done as a gentle applause to the style and aesthetics of Cleopatra.

On the setting + the styling, Roey says, When you get an opportunity to style a shoot at Cedar Lakes Estate (also featured in our Top 26 Coolest Places to Get Married), one of the most exquisite properties in the Hudson Valley, you want to take full advantage and explore an arena that hasn’t been highlighted previously on their premises. One would naturally think of creating something rustic, eclectic, vintage, relaxed based on the surroundings, but I wanted to show the extent of what you could create in such a magnificent place. Which is why I developed a concept that would infuse the raw natural beauty of the venue but introduce elements that would otherwise seem foreign to include, like sand and Copper gilded Egyptian Gods and Pharaoh chess pieces.
