Real Wedding: Kate + Andy’s Modern Wedding

I’m really excited to share the work of the talented husband + wife team of W Scott Chester based out of Atlanta, Georgia. This fun, modern wedding took place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in GA. So many great photos and just an overall fun vibe from the day! It looked like such a fun time was had by all. Kate, the bride, works as an associate editor at my most favorite music magazine, Paste. (If you aren’t familiar with this magazine, you should totally check it out!) She was also sweet enough to send some details from the day which you can read below throughout the post.

Kate – you are stunning!

Kate gifted her bridesmaids (+ herself!) these beautiful rings designed from vintage buttons. such a cute idea – I would totally wear one of those :)

I think this photo of the groomsmen walking is one of most favorites ever! love it.

The ties were custom made by one of their friends …who happens to be a girlfriend of one of the groomsmen!

We were married in front of an old garage door that I found at an antique market–the panels were replaced with glass. That was the first thing I purchased for the wedding, and we designed the rest of the details around it. Andy really wanted to use paper lanterns, but we couldn’t hang them due to the gallery’s super high ceilings, so I found the large white balloons, hoping they would have the same effect. We used twine for the strings and collected antique knobs and hooks to use as weights–we were so happy with the way the balloons turned out, and they definitely set the mood. Since we planned and designed the wedding ourselves, we chose to keep it simple and focus on creating just a few beautiful details.

I really love all the big white balloons – so modern and fresh!

the vintage photobooth was from their good friends company, majestic photobooth

Favorite Memory of the Day: The dance party at our reception. At one point Andy and I looked over and saw our moms dancing together to a song by one of our favorite bands, The Arcade Fire. And when our DJ played “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift, everyone on the dance floor knew all the words. Truth comes out after a few margaritas–everybody loves Taylor Swift!

Another favorite memory for me was reading a card from Andy right before I walked down the aisle. It had been a whirlwind of a day, and I was starting to feel nervous about the 250 people waiting for me to come out. It hit me when I read Andy’s note that in a few minutes, I was going to marry my favorite person in the world.

We honeymooned in Palm Springs and San Diego. We stayed at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs–my new favorite place. My husband (he’s a photographer) took some photos. We even brought our wedding clothes and a tripod for some desert pics in Joshua Tree. What a fun idea!! And I agree, the Ace in Palm Springs is super rad!

Any advice for those planning now? Brides: Your fiance has opinions too! Your wedding will be more special if you make decisions together. Each of us chose a priority and agreed to be flexible about the rest–it made for a fun and relaxed planning process, and a joyful wedding day.

Congrats to Kate + Andy!
