Real Wedding: Joy + Sean’s Travel Themed Wedding

Remember this great travel themed engagement session from earlier in the week? Well, photographer Melissa Schollaert saw it and immediately thought of this beautiful travel themed wedding she photographed a few months ago. I’m so glad she decided to share it since there are so many great little details Joy, the bride, created for her wedding. From Melissa, The wedding took place at the historic Loretto Chapel and La Fonda hotel in downtown Santa Fe. What made this wedding unique is that the couple loves to travel and have traveled all over the world. They thought they would incorporate their love of travel into their wedding. Everything from the invitation to the centerpieces to their honeymoon involved travel in some way.

Their invitation featured an old bi-wing aircraft with vintage inspired motifs. Their program for the ceremony was based on vintage broadsides and featured their wedding colors – orange, brown and turquoise. The bride hand-made many items including the orange and turquoise flags that guests waved as the Bride & Groom exited the church. She also made the groomsmen’s boutonnieres out of the same ribbon in the flags and different feathers. Another hand-made item by the Bride was the cute mini-suitcase with vintage travel stickers and fresh flowers for the flower girl.

A mariachi band led a parade from the church to the historic La Fonda hotel at the end of the Santa Fe Trail. Guests were greeted by margaritas, mariachi music and the escort card table which featured customized vintage train tickets on “Joy & Sean Railways”. Each guests name was hand-written and indicated their “destination” which were various international train stations in cities around the world. Each table was named after one of the international train stations.

The escort card table also featured vintage travel instruments, maps, vintage globes and old suitcases which doubled as their gift table. At each place-setting a guest received graphic air-mail envelopes addressed individually to them and inside featured a typed (via old typewriter) thank you letter and menu for the seated dinner. Each table also featured beautiful centerpieces, vibrant orange tablecloths and old cigar boxes filled with favors for the guests. The favors were hand-made envelopes with vintage postcards from all over the world. There was also a beautiful candy table with the groom’s favorite candy and Singaporean cookies from the Bride’s home country. The candy jars and vessels were marked with hand-made labels and ribbon. Guests selected their candy and wrapped them in glassine envelopes which featured vintage travel stickers.
