Real Wedding: Holly + Ryan’s Whimsical Stylish Wedding Part 1

You may recognize Holly + Ryan form their amazing W magazine inspired engagement session I featured a few months back. Well, today I’m excited to share their gorgeous wedding! Holly + Ryan hired Angel of Events of Love and Splendor to coordinate + design their day and had the talented Braedon of  Braedon Photography capturing every moment. Both Angel + Holly shared some details into their day…

From Angel, Holly + Ryan envisioned a classic yet quirky celebration that had a unique flair. Both of them have a strong sense of individual style, but Holly (fashion designer and creative genius) definitely leans more vintage-loving + whimsical while Ryan (a true southern gentleman) embodies a more traditional sophistication. I knew both of them would have strong opinions about what they wanted their wedding to be like.

Once they selected their venue, (one of my favorites – Smog Shoppe in Culver City), we began building the look and feel of their event. They chose to embrace the industrial and eclectic vibe of the property and plan a cocktail-lounge style reception. Their ceremony was the very first to take place in Smog Shoppe’s brand new ceremony courtyard. Since we did not have to “flip” the ceremony the way previous Smog Shoppe brides have had to do, we were able to entirely set the reception in advance. Instead of a rigid color palette, Holly and Ryan used a muted palette of dusty pastels for the florals, paired with crisp black and white and accents in natural kraft paper brown.

Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding

My favorite memory of the day was when I was walking down the aisle, heart racing, and my dad whispered in my ear, “look at ryan.” As soon as I saw my husband to be, I felt a clam peace rush over me.

One of my favorite things about Holly’s wedding was the incredible personalization that went into her dress. Instead of purchasing a new couture gown, she made her own… by re-fashioning the wedding dress that had been worn by her grandmother AND her mother before her! It was such a gorgeous labor of love on Holly’s part and I can’t think of anything more sentimental and meaningful. Wow!

We wanted our wedding to be uniquely us and we were blessed enough to find the perfect nitch in the wedding industry to make it all happen. Tradition and class mixed up with a bit of quirkiness. For Ryan we had a cigar roller, classy beer, and bowties. We had a smoking section with leather couches. Think old fashion gentleman. For me it was mismatched vintage pieces, loungey food, and cats.
