Real Wedding: Dana + Scott’s Sweet Oregon Wedding

How awesome would it be to get married in an apple orchard with stunning views of the mountains? That is exactly where Dana + Scott were married. They were lucky enough to have a friend with a gorgeous house and apple orchard in Parkdale, OR. Thanks so much to Kelty at Steep Street for letting me share this intimate + fun wedding today. From Dana:

We have a strong connection to the land and outdoor spaces, farming, cooking, canning, and all things hand-made, so we wanted all of those elements to play a part in our wedding. Since we didn’t have a wedding party, colors, or lots of decor, we wanted to be detail oriented with our table settings. I have been collecting old tablecloths since I was a teenager, so they were the immediate inspiration for the tables. Collecting vintage goods to set the tables meant that we could honor the past, reuse beautiful things, and have an old fashioned feeling wedding in the middle of an apple orchard. We kept things feeling old by making a lot by hand (boutonnieres, cake stands, signage, applesauce favors), serving a family-style lunch, and playing lawn games while listening to a fantastic local gypsy jazz quartet.

Most memorable moment of your wedding day?
There are two memorable moments for us (among many): speaking our vows to one another would be the first. And then sneaking off into the orchard to drink a lovely bottle of grower champagne and revel in the fact that we had finally “done it”! What a sweet idea! Love that they snuck off for a few moments to enjoy the day with each other alone :)

Any advice for those planning now?
Start early. If you are crafting, designing, making, creating, start on your projects now. We finished almost everything a week before the wedding and didn’t stress about any of the details during the final days. Also, stay true to your sense of style and what you want in your day. Everyone around us had advice, suggestions, ideas, and while we listened to what friends and family had to offer, we remained steadfast in planning the day that represented who we are as a couple.

We are incredibly grateful to live in such a gorgeous part of the country, in a city that encourages and supports boundless creativity. Our wedding could not have happened without the help of our wonderful families and incredibly talented friends. There was so much sentiment tied to the fact that we had personal relationships with our caterer, baker and florist. Our friends and families schlepped and hauled, set up and broke down, and helped us have our dream wedding.
