Real Wedding: Beth + Scott’s DIY Vintage Wedding

Today’s lovely wedding was sent over from photographer Ali Beamish. Beth + Scott were married at a park in San Juan Capistrano and the reception was in Old San Juan. This wedding is a true love of DIY. Suitcases were used for a lot of decoration and they had old windows and frames hanging from the trees at the ceremony. They had different friends and family members bake pies for dessert at the reception. Beth also used a lot of old books for decor and had the guests sign in using an old typewriter. Beth is an avid reader of Green Wedding Shoes and shares some of her thoughts on the day below. Thanks Beth!

How fun are these photos of the guys!? All the guys are all in Scott’s rockabilly band and played the music for the ceremony. From Beth,The ties are from American Apparel. The guys got to pick the rest of their outfits out themselves, with the request that their jackets be vintage and that they wear their favorite cowboy boots. People were a little worried I was giving them so much freedom, but I think they all turned out looking pretty sharp… Especially my husband! :)

The bridesmaids had a picnic before the wedding (which I think is the coolest idea!) and they all wore boots :) The ladies’ dresses are from forever 21 which they wore with their own choice of boots and grey sweaters. My dress is from Nicole Miller, but I had a few alterations done (like the bustle in the back) that varied from the original design.

My favorite memory of the day was the anticipation of seeing Scott’s face as I walked through forest on my Dad’s arm. We had “Ice Dance” play by Danny Elfman as I approached the ceremony which made for a dreamy atmosphere. My husband agrees that this was also his favorite memory!

I ordered bunches of flowers from Costco and then my good friends Sasha and Kristi put everything together, they were amazing! I loved having people who mean so much to me and my husband play such a huge role in our wedding… Our photographer, caterer, decorators, all very good friends!

After the wedding, they went to Scott’s barbershop for a few more pictures with them.

Planning the details of the day could not have been more fun. A wedding can be a perfect opportunity to think outside of yourself. Considering a registry like the I Do Foundation or others that allow yourself and guests to donate to a cause can make a wedding that much more personal and meaningful.

Thanks to Beth + Scott for sharing your lovely day with us. Best wishes to you both!
