Noelle + Marcel always knew that they never wanted to have a conventional wedding. They decided having their wedding on a family pomegranate farm in beautiful Mpumalanga, South Africa would make the perfect setting. The farm was the inspiration for their wedding. They used seeds as confetti, plucked grasses for the bridesmaids’ bouquets, and used rocks from the river bed to make a path connecting the ceremony area with the dinner tables. A week before their wedding friends and family came together to help prepare the venue and together they built everything from scratch – and wait until you see their reception area! Big thanks to welovepictures for the photos and congrats to Noelle + Marcel!
It was incredibly spontaneous when our last-minute-borrowed-from-much-more-organised-friends-also-planning-their-wedding-day-playlist started delivering some very unexpected and unusual bohemian tracks… for a moment we held our breath not knowing how the crowd would respond but moments later almost all our guests hit the tiny dance floor and utter chaos broke loose, and all of this under fairy lights and the first super moon in over thirty years. We still get queries about the amazing playlist 'we put together' to this day.
Don't get caught up in all the wedding trends out there, rather make your wedding true and honest to who you are as a couple. Don't be afraid to be different…make decisions, stick to them and don't have any regrets. We planned our outdoor wedding with no tent or covering because we wanted our guests to enjoy the silhouettes of the surrounding mountains, the stars and the moon. We admit that this was risky and many people told us that we were crazy but we thought that if getting wet was the worst that could happen we would take the risk and it paid off for us. Also, spend your budget on the elements that are most important to you. For us this included spectacular photos and delicious food.
We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to be unique. Wedding venues are without a doubt convenient and many people aren’t as blessed as we are to have had a free alternative but the majority of venues (in South Africa at least) are conventional and stale and that is what it will feel like to your guests if you don’t inject enough of yourself into it. Be yourself.
